Microsoft is finally adding the most-requested feature for its Surface Laptops
Microsoft is releasing the Surface Laptop 5G due to popular demand for a 5G version of the device. The laptop features a dynamic antenna system for improved connectivity and acts as a mobile hotspot. It also includes Copilot+ verification and will begin shipping on August 26th. It’s not long until you can bring the power of Cop Pilot+ with you wherever you go. The device also comes with everything you’d expect from Microsoft’s devices, including Copilot + verification, which allows the laptop to run AI operations directly on the hardware, such as Microsoft’s assistant Copilot. The Surface L laptop 5G is expected to go on sale in September.

The Surface Laptop series has been a good go-to for people who want a business-oriented device to get work done on, but people quickly noticed one big flaw with it. While it was really useful to have on the go, businessfolk who wanted a 5G version of the laptop discovered that there were no available Surface Laptop models that supported it.
Fortunately, Microsoft listened to the people. Back in January, it announced it would release the Surface Laptop 5G, and now the device is almost here. While you can work out its main selling point from the name alone, it comes with some additional features that make it worth a look.
Microsoft starts rolling out the Surface Laptop 5G
In an emailed press release, Microsoft discusses what’s next for the Surface Laptop range. Turns out, a lot of people asked the company about the possibility of a 5G version of the Surface Laptop, so the company is providing.
However, that’s not all that Microsoft added to the new Surface Laptop 5G. Among the new features is something Microsoft calls the “Dynamic antenna system,” so it can adapt to its new 5G role with ease:
At the heart of Surface Laptop 5G is a dynamic antenna system that continuously adapts to its environment. With six strategically placed antennas, the device automatically adjusts signal paths and power based on how it’s being held or used, ensuring strong, reliable connectivity exactly when and where it’s needed. As users move between environments, the device seamlessly transitions between 5G and Wi-Fi networks, keeping a steady and secure connection to cloud-based apps, updates, and corporate resources. This innovative antenna design also enables Surface Laptop 5G to act as a mobile hotspot, securely sharing its 5G connection with other devices when Wi-Fi isn’t available.
Microsoft states that these antennas aren’t placed near the base, where the signals can end up getting blocked by whatever you rest the laptop on. Instead, you’ll find them “strategically positioned higher on the device,” meaning they can get the best signal possible. Microsoft also used a new material that allows radio waves to pass through it without sacrificing durability, so you should notice stronger and more stable connections with the Surface Laptop 5G than with any other laptop.
Other than that, the Surface Laptop 5G comes with everything you’d expect from Microsoft’s devices, including Copilot+ verification. This allows the Surface Laptop to run AI operations directly on the hardware, such as Microsoft’s assistant Copilot. If this sounds interesting, Microsoft states that the Surface Laptop 5G will begin shipping on August 26th, so it’s not long until you can bring the power of Copilot+ with you wherever you go.
