The record set by Chestnut 2021 at the spectacle is 76 hot dogs – just under eight per minute. In his absence, the US American Patrick Bertoletti had won, coming second this time with 46.5 hot dogs.
Defending champion Miki Sudo once again won the women’s competition – even though she fell far short of her record of 51 hot dogs last year with 33. Last year, Chestnut was not allowed to compete in the contest after he struck a deal with the vegan food brand Impossible Foods. Chestnut told The Associated Press last month that he had never appeared in any commercials for the company’s vegan hot dogs and that Nathan’s is the only hot dog company he has worked with. But Chestnut acknowledged he “should have made that more clear with Nathan’s.”
In lieu of appearing at Coney Island last year, Chestnut participated in an exhibition contest with Army soldiers at Fort Bragg in Texas, where he ate 57 hot dogs in five minutes. 2025 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest: Live updates, highlights as Miki Sudo claims 11th title, Joey Chestnut returns
The 25th annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest got underway Friday. Miki Sudo won the women’s event after consuming 33 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Miki Sudo stormed away with the win on the women’s side Friday, though didn’t turn in a record-breaking performance. Sudo won the event after consuming 33 hot dogs in 10 minutes. She defeated runner-up Michelle Lesco by over 10 hot dogs. Lesco finished with 22 3/4 hot dogs.

With the win, Sudo has now won the event in 11 of the past 12 years. The one year she missed out, Sudo did not take part in the competition due to her pregnancy.
Now, it’s up to 16-time champion Joey Chestnut to follow suit. With the women’s competition finished, the men are set to take the stage soon.
It marks a return to the competition for Chestnut, as the Major League Eating star faced a one-year ban thanks to his partnership with Impossible Foods, a direct competitor with Nathan’s Famous. Now, he’ll make his return to the field and look to break his own record of 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes at the annual event. Technically, his own personal record is a bit higher, having eaten 83 hot dogs in a competition of his own last year while on the outskirts, head-to-head against Takeru Kobayashi. He is a heavy odds favorite to win the men’s competition at -1800 at DraftKings Sportsbook.
With Chestnut out of the field in 2024, Patrick Bertolette took home the win with 58 total hot dogs in 10 minutes. He holds the second-best odds to win this year’s competition at +1000, though Chestnut, notably, has exceeded that total in all but one of his 16 wins at the event.
