According to AAA, 3 million people were expected to travel across the New England region this Fourth of July weekend. In Connecticut, AAA says 23 percent of the population was expected to travel by either car or plane.

“We kind of left at the worst possible time on Saturday morning, but right not it’s pretty good,” said Douglas Russo outside the Southington rest stop Sunday morning. “Going forward from now on, in the future years, we’ll definitely make that the right decision, leaving early.”

As people are coming back, Bette Saltzman and her family are heading out.

“We left this morning,” said Saltzman who is traveling to Martha’s Vineyard. “Everything’s been very clear, smooth sailing so far.”
