A new Pew Research Center survey finds that more Americans disapprove than approve of the job Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is doing as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. The survey shows that 43% of U.S. adults disapprove of Kennedy’s performance, while 36% approve. Another 21% say they’re not sure.

The survey, conducted April 28 to May 4, follows a series of decisions by Kennedy since taking office in February. The decisions include cutting 10,000 jobs at federal health agencies, urging states to ban fluoride in drinking water and responding to a measles outbreak in Texas, PRC said.

Public opinion is not only divided but also sharply opposite, according to PRC. Three-in-ten Americans strongly disapprove of Kennedy’s performance, compared to just 16% who strongly approve, the survey shows.

The data reveals a significant partisan split. Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, 72% disapprove of Kennedy’s performance, while only 9% approve, PRC found, and 66% of Republicans and Republican leaners approve, with just 14% disapproving. Liberal Democrats are found to be the most critical, with 83% disapproval, while conservative Republicans are the most supportive, at 74% approval, PRC reports.

Age also plays a role. Older Democrats (50 and up) are more likely to disapprove than younger Democrats (79% vs. 67%), while older Republicans are more likely to approve than younger Republicans (71% vs. 60%). Younger adults across the political spectrum are more likely to say they are unsure about Kennedy’s performance, suggesting that opinions may still be forming.
