The National Sports Collectors Convention, also known as The National, will take place at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit in 2028.

The National started in 1980 and now draws crowds of roughly 100,000 over a five-day span.

Detroit is a sports city. And attendance record-breaking national events such as the 2024 NFL Draft are proving it.

One of the next big events to choose Detroit is the National Sports Collectors Convention, a gathering that brings together sports enthusiasts and rare cards, memorabilia and collectable items from all over the world.

In 2028, the convention is set to happen at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit, according to an announcement by the convention on social media on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Typically, the NSCC is held in suburban areas far from downtowns. The 2024 event, which is believed to have drawn more than 100,000 attendees, was held in the International Exposition Center in Cleveland, near the city’s airport.

This year’s convention is being held in Rosemont, Illinois – just outside of Chicago; it started Wednesday, July 30, and goes until Sunday, Aug. 3. The 2026 and 2027 conventions will also be in Rosemont, according to the convention’s website.

The convention started 45 years ago, with its inaugural event in Los Angeles, according to the convention’s website.

This is the second time Michigan will have “The National,” as it is also known, previously hosting a much smaller event in 1981 in Plymouth.
