A new $100 million behavioral health facility in Florence is nearing completion.

ABC 15 got an exclusive first look inside.

The Jean and Hugh K Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion will offer a wide range of mental health services.

From crisis stabilization and triage to telehealth, outpatient and inpatient care, the new center is also expanding support for teens and adolescents.

Director Elizabeth Crowley says the facility will bring much-needed behavioral health resources to the Pee Dee region.

“The reason we decided to have the particular services that we have on site is because we didn’t want to duplicate services that were already in the community,” Crowley said. “For instance, we have a lot of great traditional outpatient therapists in the community, and counselors and counseling centers; we’re stepping into a gap in areas where we don’t have. Currently, we don’t have an intensive outpatient program specific to mental health, and so we’ll be able to step in the gap there and then currently we also don’t have crisis or empath unit anywhere in the community and so that’s where we’ll be able to step in the gap there.”

The facility will feature a 63-bed inpatient psychiatric unit for patients in need of acute care.

It’s a collaborative effort between McLeod Health, the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, Francis Marion University, and Hope Health.

The pavilion is located at 121 East Cedar St. and is expected to open in early September.
