CENTER POINT, Ala. (WBRC) – Healthcare access is expanding in Jefferson County to include people who are currently being left out.

WBRC was given an inside look at a free medical clinic opening up in Center Point that plans to serve people without insurance or on a tight budget.

Staff at the Project Success Ministries clinic are welcoming the “underserved” community in.

“We saw a need here in Alabama, the surrounding areas, Birmingham, Center Point, of individuals finding it difficult to receive healthcare due to their poverty level or copays,” said Pastor Morris Jolly with Project Success Ministries.

Organizers recently cut the ribbon to the free clinic and pharmacy program on Huffman Road.

It offers blood pressure checks, diabetes screenings, medications help, and even access to food.

Dr. Robyn Stiff is a physician who plans to volunteer her time at the clinic.

She said this is all about making healthcare more accessible, so everyone is accounted for.

“This is the perfect area for a free clinic,” said Dr. Robyn Stiff, a physician collaborative. “Honestly, we have so many underserved patients, potential patients, people in this area that really just need access to healthcare. Especially affordable if not free. My idea is the patients that cannot come to my office whether due to insurance restrictions, copay being high, not affordable, my plan is actually to come to this area, actually come to this location ideally on my free days or time off and just give them education.”

There is an application process to be eligible.

These services are available for those who do not have income or insurance, or are working with limited income.

The public can call 1-866-690-0007 to learn more.
