New Qi2 25W Wireless Charging Coming to “Major” Android Smartphones
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has released a new version of its Qi wireless charging standard. The new version is called Qi v2.2.1 and was in testing in a limited launch for “fourteen devices, receivers, and transmitters” Full-scale certification testing is now open to those not a part of that limited launch. They promise that “major Android smartphones” will have Qi2 25W, along with Apple’s next iPhones.
Android phones with Qi2 25W: Today, the WPC is back to introduce the next version of Qi2 called “Qi2 25W.” They promise that “major Android smartphones” will have Qi2 25W, along with Apple’s next iPhones. Do we believe that? Heh, sure.
The new Qi2 25W is also called Qi v2.2.1 and was in testing in a limited launch for “fourteen devices, receivers, and transmitters” prior to this announcement. Full-scale certification testing is now open to those not a part of that limited launch.
The big story here, outside of a possible Android connection, is that Qi2 25W brings 25W wireless charging speeds as a standard. The previous 15W wireless charging in Qi2 was apparently not fast enough. The WPC saw too many manufacturers creating their own faster wireless charging protocols and wanted to stop that in order to create better interoperability.
Which Android phones will have Qi2 25W? The WPC didn’t say. There is always a chance that Google’s Pixel 10 line has it, but that also seems so soon. Maybe Samsung’s Galaxy S26 line will? Or maybe OnePlus and the OnePlus 14 will jump on it first? We hope all of them do.

iPhones & Qi2 25W: What to Expect
Apple’s iPhone 16 series already supports 15W Qi2 charging speeds, while 25W is available through the proprietary MagSafe system. The WPC has confirmed that upcoming iPhones will be among the first to support the Qi2 25W open standard officially. There is strong anticipation that the iPhone 17 will offer full compatibility, while the iPhone 16 series may receive updates to enable 25W charging on Qi2-certified chargers.
Notably, Apple’s MagSafe charger, when paired with the new iPhones and a 30W power adapter, can already deliver this 25W speed; however, until now, this capability has been limited to Apple’s proprietary ecosystem. Qi2 25W opens the door to MagSafe-level speeds from a much wider range of accessory makers without Apple licensing fees.

Major Android Smartphones Joining the Qi2 25W Revolution
Historically, high-speed wireless charging on Android devices relied on proprietary solutions by brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus. With Qi2 25W, these benefits will become standardized, giving users the ability to enjoy rapid charging across numerous brands and chargers. While many flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and upcoming devices from OPPO and Vivo already offer excellent wireless charging, their next generations are expected to officially support Qi2 25W.
The first Android device confirmed to offer full Qi2 compatibility is the HMD Skyline. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Fold and Z series are “Qi2 Ready” (currently limited to 15W), but new models are anticipated to fully embrace 25W Qi2 charging, often with magnetic cases required to enable the fastest speeds.
Why Qi2 25W Matters
Universal Fast Charging: Ends the fragmentation between Apple and Android fast wireless charging standards.
More Accessory Choices: Brands like Belkin, Anker, and Ugreen have already received Qi2.2 (25W) certification for new chargers and power banks, with global launches expected later this year.
Backwards Compatibility: Qi2 25W chargers will still work with older Qi and Qi2 devices at their maximum supported speed.
Safer, Smarter Charging: Built-in bi-directional communication and safety features protect both device and battery life.

Qi2 25W new wireless charging standard announced » YugaTech
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has announced the latest update to the Qi wireless charging standard with Qi2 25W (Qi v2.2.1) Compared to the preceding standard, this iteration boosts power delivery by almost 70 percent. This reflects via its charging rate, which is now 25W going up from 15W.
Qi2 25W marks the first time ‘major Android smartphones’ are going to support the updated Qi2 ecosystem. This is in reference to iPhones, which already support the magnetic-based Qi2-compatible system.
At the time of writing, 14 products (along with transmitters and receivers) have completed official certification. This includes the recently unveiled UGREEN MagFlow Magnetic Power Bank we shared on July 22.
Hundreds of devices are being processed to support the new standard. Aside from power banks, smartphones and chargers are in line for approval.
What isn’t clarified yet is whether Android phones are adopting a magnet-based design or not. Readers would probably imagine something similar to Apple’s MagSafe.
Either way, the arrival of Qi2 25W aims to improve wireless charging with speed and reliability across different ecosystems. Notably, the WPC shared that faster charging stands as the top user-requested feature for wireless charging.
This positions Qi2 25W as a welcome upgrade for users needing more efficient, cable-free power delivery. We’ll update readers once we have more details on the first wave of Qi2-certified Android devices (and accessories). These are expected to be announced and rolled out in the coming months.
Qi2 25W is official, promises hundreds of devices will support it
Qi2 25W is a new wireless charging spec that goes up to 25W. It was officially unveiled today by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) WPC promises that “major Android smartphones” are about to “join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time”
The WPC promises that “major Android smartphones” (whatever that means) are about to “join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time with this launch”, obviously in addition to Apple’s iPhones. Fourteen devices, receivers and transmitters, completed Qi2 25W certification testing last week, and full-scale certification testing is now open to “several hundred devices waiting in the queue to be tested”.
Undoubtedly most of those devices will be accessories like chargers and power banks, but it will still be interesting to see some Android phones supporting the new standard too. Whether they will keep going to magnet-free route or finally switch to built-in magnets like the iPhones remains to be seen.
Compared to the previous, 15W spec, Qi2 25W delivers almost 70% more power, and according to WPC market research, faster wireless charging is the number one consumer-requested feature to improve wireless charging satisfaction.

Qi2 with 25W Charging Support is Here
The Wireless Power Consortium has announced the next iteration of the Qi wireless charging protocol. The successor of Qi 2.2.1 is now unveiled. Tagged with the name “Qi2,” it is set to upgrade the charging wattage speed from 15W to 25W.
The Wireless Power Consortium adds in the release that “According to WPC market research, the most popular feature requested by consumers to improve wireless charging satisfaction is faster rapid charging. When Qi2 was released in November 2023 with 15 watts of charging capability, it marked a significant step toward meeting consumer demand for quicker charging.”
Pixel 10 and Several Android Devices will support it
While the announcement was made, it was added that “Several OEMs use their proprietary charging tech. But Qi protocol enables any brand to use and take advantage of the faster charging speeds.”
WPC further adds that Google did help in the development of the new Qi2 charging standard. It later adds to the statement that “Numerous Android manufacturers, in addition to the iPhones, will carry the support of newer and faster Qi2 tech.”
Now, though no particular model or brand name was directly mentioned in the statement. It makes it kind of clear that the Pixel 10 device will carry the support of Qi2 wireless charging tech. Leaks also reveal that the device is set to get new magnetic changing accessories, and it will probably be termed as “Pixelsnap”.
