NFL Franchise Won’t Cave To President Trump’s Pressure
President Trump is calling for an NFL franchise to change its name heading into the 2025 season. But the NFL franchise won’t be caving to the pressure. The Washington Commanders have gone through a couple of name changes in recent years. The Redskins became the Washington Football Team in 2020. They played under that name for two seasons, before rebranding to the Washington commanders in 2022. The Commanders owner Josh Harris, though, has made it clear that he won’t caved to public pressure – even if it comes from President Trump.

Now, President Trump is demanding that they change the name again.
“The Washington “Whatever’s” should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!” he wrote on Truth Social on Sunday morning.

Washington is sticking with the Commanders.
“I think it’s now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff, so, we’re going with that,” Josh Harris, who took over for Dan Snyder in 2023, said. “Now, in this building, the name Commanders means something. It’s about players who love football, are great at football, hit hard, mentally tough, great teammates. It’s really meaningful that that name is growing in meaning.”

The Commanders have high expectations heading into 2025, too, led by second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.
