Nintendo discontinues cost-saving game vouchers for Switch Online players
Nintendo is ending its $100 game voucher program for Switch Online subscribers. The vouchers could save you $20 or even $30 on some first-party games. Nintendo says new titles will be added to the eligibility list between now and January 2026. New vouchers will be redeemable for up to a year after purchase, but you can’t buy them after that.
However, Nintendo announced today that it will soon end the program, rather than carrying it forward into the Switch 2 era. Switch Online subscribers can still buy a pair of vouchers until the end of January 2026, and those vouchers will be redeemable for up to a year after purchase, but you can’t buy new vouchers after that.
The vouchers were already notably not usable to buy Switch 2-exclusive games like Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza. However, for hybrid Switch games with a separate Switch 2 Edition, you could still use them to buy a game like Tears of the Kingdom and then upgrade it to the Switch 2 edition separately. Nintendo also said on its FAQ page that new titles would be added to the eligibility list between now and January 2026, raising the possibility that upcoming high-profile hybrid games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or Pokémon Legends: Z-A could make the list.
Nintendo Kills Switch Game Voucher Program Intended To Save Money For Online Subscribers
The Nintendo Switch Game Voucher Program was rolled out in 2019. It allowed players to pick up newly released software with savings shaved off the top. In a two-pack of vouchers (worth $99.98), fans could pick up two digital MSRP titles with 18-25% taken off just for being a Nintendo Online subscriber. Today, the decision has been made to cut the program entirely, and the last call lands on January 30, 2026.
The Nintendo Switch Game Voucher Program was rolled out in 2019, and it allowed players to pick up newly released software with savings shaved off the top. In a two-pack of vouchers (worth $99.98), fans could pick up two digital MSRP titles with 18-25% taken off just for being a Nintendo Online subscriber, and fans were allowed to stockpile up to eight of these coupons for future releases. Today, the decision has been made to cut the program entirely, and the last call lands on January 30, 2026.
In a long-form FAQ post on the official website, details have been laid out to end the program, but fans can still use it to get savings before the gates close for good. The program closes next year, giving fans approximately six months to grab vouchers. Notably, the vouchers are good for a whole calendar year after purchase, even after the program closes permanently in January 2026. Many games on the voucher eligibility list — like Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — are listed at MSRP, letting players save $10 and up by using vouchers.
After January 30th, 2026, #NintendoSwitch Game Vouchers will no longer be sold. Any Game Vouchers bought will remain valid for 12 months after purchase. Switch titles will continue to be added to the Game Voucher catalogue throughout 2026.

When asked if the program will continue to add new games to the eligibility list, Nintendo said “Yes, additional Nintendo Switch games released by Nintendo will also be added to the list of titles for which vouchers can be redeemed after the sale of vouchers ends on 30 January, 2026” which means new titles will continue to be added although the program is ending.
Although the voucher program is being killed, fans can still save on new digital titles by following guidelines up to the closing date of January 30. Fans should check out the FAQ page for more information.
