After a bunch of teasers, Nothing has offered a first look at the new “Glyph Matrix” lights on the back of Nothing Phone (3), while also disproving a recent leaked design.

In a new post, Nothing shows off the “Glyph Matrix” on Phone (3) for the first time. The company teases that this new setup is “when light becomes language.”

Information is scarce, but a couple of things are clear in the accompanying video. For one, the “Glyph Matrix” is quite small. Secondly, it appears in the top right corner of the phone’s backplate, rather than the center as many were expecting.

That placement also tells us another key piece of information. The previously leaked design for Phone (3) was likely wrong.

A leaked render earlier this month proposed a new design for Phone (3) that had no visible lights, three cameras, and a familiar overall aesthetic. The design seemed plausible, though the design’s appearance as a Nothing Phone (3a) concept left many scratching their heads around the leak. In any case, that design is almost certainly not what Nothing is launching next month, as the teaser shows a “Glyph Matrix” in a location that is essentially impossible on the leaked device.

For the sake of comparison, we threw the leaked design on top of Nothing’s own teaser, and the results speak for themselves.

Nothing is known for some runaround tactics in terms of its leaks, so a “fake” design floating around, even one with good sourcing, isn’t a huge surprise.
