Oasis fans ‘devastated’ as iconic song left off setlist for first show in 16 years

Oasis fans ‘devastated’ as iconic song left off setlist for first show in 16 years. Oasis played their first live show since 2009 on Friday (July 4) at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, but fans have expressed their disappointment at one song being snubbed. The most popular song to be left off the setlist seemed to be 2005 chart-topping single Lyla, which multiple fans in the comments said deserved a spot on the 23-song running order. The band also chose not to include the 2002 single Stop Crying Your Heart Out, which has gone on to become one of Oasis’ biggest songs worldwide. Other hits, including Songbird and She’s Electric, were also missing. In fact, Oasis only played one song from their 2002 album Heathen Chemistry, which was Little By Little.

Oasis reunited for the first time in 16 years on Friday (July 4) as they began their Live ’25 tour at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. But following the gig, fans are all saying the same thing about one iconic song that was missing from the setlist.

Liam and Noel Gallagher treated fans to 23 of Oasis’ biggest hits as they took to the stage for the first time since their meteoric fallout in 2009, including heavy hitters like Cigarettes & Alcohol, Supersonic, Live Forever, and Wonderwall. However, with so many hits under their belts, there were bound to be songs that didn’t make the cut – and some fans have said they’re “devastated” about not hearing their favourite track.

An Oasis fan named Maxi Gonzalez posted a picture of the setlist for the gig on X, and soon found herself inundated with hundreds of replies from other fans sharing their opinions on the running order.

Several expressed disappointment at not hearing their personal favourites live, including Columbia, The Importance of Being Idle, and Don’t Go Away, which did not make the final setlist.

But the most popular song to be left off the setlist seemed to be their 2005 chart-topping single Lyla, which multiple fans in the comments said deserved a spot on the 23-song running order.

One fan said: “Lyla would have been the biggest sing-along in history.”

Another added: “Take out Bring It On Down for Lyla and it’s perfect.”

Every other track came from their first three albums, Definitely Maybe, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and Be Here Now, or was a B-side released during the same era between 1994 and 1997.

Many fans conceded that the band simply has “too many good songs” to be able to please everyone. While others said there’s always a chance they choose to swap out some tracks on future tour dates, so the setlist may not stay the same.

As well as talk about the setlist, Oasis fans all noticed the same thing about Liam and Noel’s vocals during the night, as they proclaimed that the pair still ‘sounded amazing’.

The performance was the first show in their long-awaited reunion tour (Live ’25) – which will also see them perform in locations including London, Manchester and Edinburgh. A brief history of Oasis The brothers, who had not performed together since their dramatic split in 2009, blasted through their setlist, kicking off with Hello, from their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?

During the gig, Liam apologised to fans for how long it had taken for them to reunite. He spoke to the audience several times throughout the set, saying: “Hello people, it’s been too long,” before launching into Oasis’ third song of the night – What’s the Story. Both brothers made joking references to the dynamic pricing scandal during Friday’s show. Fans were left outraged when trying to buy tickets for the Oasis tour in the UK and Ireland, with some standard tickets appearing to jump from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK’s competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing. The brothers also paid tribute to Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident on Thursday (July 3). During the final bars of Live Forever, a picture of Jota was displayed, with the crowd cheering and applauding the gesture. #cardiff #jota ♬ original sound – Howell Davies @howelldavies This was perfect #oasis As they broke into fan-favourite Champagne Supernova, their final song of the evening, Liam said: “Right you beautiful people, this is it. “Nice one for putting up with us over the years, we know we’ve been difficult. “Champagne Supernova, nice one.” While the brothers shared no banter on stage throughout the gig, they very briefly high-fived and half-hugged each other’s shoulders after their closing track. Almost a year since announcing the long-awaited Oasis reunion, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher have played their first show together in 16 years.

The once-warring siblings kicked things off at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on Friday (4 July) before further dates around the UK, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Australia and South America.

Thousands of fans gathered at the Cardiff venue to watch the rock band, who broke up after a backstage fight in 2009. They tore through hits including “Morning Glory”, “Supersonic”, “Half the World Away” and “Stand by Me”.

At one stage, Liam Gallagher made a taunt about the ticket pricing scandal, which occurred when the tour was announced last August. “You’re having a good time, yeah?” he said, asking: “Is it worth the £40,000 you paid for the ticket?”

On Tuesday, Noel was spotted by a young fan at Cardiff station, having apparently opted to travel by train ahead of his band’s first gig since 2009.

“It felt so surreal seeing a rock icon live in the flesh,” Oasis fan Joey, 16, told the BBC. “Their music has been such a big part in my parents’ life and also mine too. I can’t wait to see them live on Friday.”

Oasis are being supported in the UK by Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft, who declared it a “historic night”, and the Liverpool-formed band Cast.
