Argentine left-back Nicolás Tagliafico (32) has returned to Lyon, one month after the expiry of his contract with Les Gones. The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina ran his contract down and he was expected to join a club with less financial constraints than the Ligue 1 side. But Lyon’s head of recruitment remained in touch with the former AFC Ajax, who returned to live in Amsterdam, and eventually convinced Tagliafico to agree on a new two-year deal with Lyon.

Tagliafico is arguably one of Lyon’s most consistent outfield players, so his signing as a free agent is a more-than-welcome boost for Les Gones. The Argentine featured 102 times with Lyon since his arrival in 2022. “By extending Nicolas Tagliafico’s stay, Olympique Lyonnais reaffirms its ambition to rely on experienced players to supervise and support the progress of its young players“, the Ligue 1 side said in their press release.
