PEORIA (25News Now) – OSF HealthCare and Carle Health have expressed their concerns after the House Thursday passed the “Big Beautiful Bill.”

At its core, the package’s priority is $4.5 trillion in tax breaks enacted in 2017. This includes allowing workers to deduct tips and overtime pay, and a $6,000 deduction for most older adults earning less than $75,000 a year.

To help offset the lost tax revenue, the package includes $1.2 trillion in cutbacks to the Medicaid health care and food stamps, largely by imposing new work requirements, including for some parents and older people, and a major rollback of green energy tax credits.

OSF acknowledges the current climate prents risks and new challenges to health-related service, including many rural communities.

They have been in contact about potential Medicaid cuts to Congressmen Darin LaHood and Eric Sorensen.

Carle Health said they are actively assessing how legislative changes may affect their daily operations.

OSF HealthCare has upheld our Sisters’ Mission to serve with the greatest care and love for nearly 150 years and will continue to deliver on that Mission. We have faced challenges over the decades and acknowledge the current climate is presenting risks and new challenges to health-related services, including to many of the rural communities OSF has been called to serve. We have communicated our concerns about potential Medicaid cuts to our congressional delegation. Congressman Darin LaHood and Congressman Eric Sorensen are aware of our concerns, and we appreciate their efforts on our behalf. Congressman LaHood has been advocating on behalf of Illinois hospitals with his Republican colleagues, and we continue to be grateful for those efforts. There continue to be a number of unknowns regarding the final state of the bill, and we remain hopeful that those who come to us for care will not be negatively impacted.

Healthcare provisions in the budget reconciliation bill passed by Congress are broad, and it is widely anticipated that the impact on hospitals and health systems across the nation will be substantial. With potentially millions of individuals losing coverage across the country over the next decade, challenges will be plentiful. As we actively assess how these legislative changes may affect our daily operations and identify any necessary adjustments, we are unwavering in our commitment to be a trusted source of high-quality care across the region.
