The earlier notice to airmen (NOTAM) issued by Pakistan was to expire on May 24.The fresh NOTAM issued by India says: “Indian airspace not available for Pakistan registered aircraft and aircraft operated/owned/ or leased by Pakistan airlines/operators including military flights” till June 24, 5.29 am (IST).Similarly, the fresh NOTAM issued Friday says: “Pakistan airspace not available for Indian registered aircraft and aircraft operated/owned or leased by Indian airlines/operators including military flights.”Since the ceasefire, many foreign airlines have resumed overflying Pakistan on their flight between the west and the east, including India.

India on Friday extended the closure of its airspace for flights operated by Pakistan airlines by another month till June 23, according to sources. The ban imposed on April 30 as part of various measures taken by the government against Pakistan was set to expire on May 23.

The Indian airspace will not be available for aircraft registered in Pakistan as well as for planes operated, owned or leased by Pakistan airlines and operators till June 23, 2025, according to the fresh NOTAM issued on Friday.

As per the NOTAM, the ban will also be applicable to Pakistan’s military aircraft.
Pakistan has also extended the ban on its airspace for Indian flights by a month till June 24.

On April 24, Pakistan banned its airspace for India until May 23, after the Indian government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.

Pakistan had initially imposed the ban last month following New Delhi ’s response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The closure was originally scheduled to expire on May 24, in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) rules that limit airspace restrictions to one-month intervals. The restrictions, which impact commercial and military flights, have led to longer routes for Indian carriers, especially those departing from northern hubs such as Delhi.

Earlier, a Notice to Air Mission (NOTAM) issued by India informed that no Pakistani aircraft will be allowed to enter Indian airspace with effect from April 30, 2025 to May 23, 2025.
Meanwhile, Pakistan also extended the closure of its airspace for Indian aircrafts for the same time period.
“The ban on Indian aircraft flying over Pakistan airspace has been extended until 4:59 AM June 24, 2025,” the Pakistan Airports Authority said in a statement Friday, reports PTI.
“All aircraft that are Indian-registered, operated, owned, or leased will remain subject to the ban,” the statement added. “This ban will also apply to Indian military aircraft. No flight operated by Indian airlines or operators will be allowed to use Pakistani airspace.”
The extension comes hours after aviation watchdog DGCA said that an IndiGo pilot operating a Delhi-Srinagar flight attempted to enter Pakistani airspace on Wednesday to avoid a sudden hailstorm. The request, made to Lahore Air Traffic Control, was rejected.

Earlier, the MoCA on April 30 had said that India issued a NOTAM and closed its airspace for Pakistan-registered, operated, or leased aircraft, airlines, and military flights.
According to media reports, earlier, Pakistan had also extended airspace closure for Indian airlines till June 24, 2025.
After the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, New Delhi announced a series of measures against Islamabad. As per ANI, in response, Pakistan closed its airspace for all Indian owned or Indian operated airlines.
This also comes after the Indian Armed Forces had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Following this, the neighboring nation launched drone and missile attacks on Indian territory.

The two countries first issued their Notams in late April after escalating tensions in the wake of the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in which 26 people were gunned down by terrorists with links to Pakistan. India responded with Operation Sindoor precision strikes inside Pakistani territory.
