A pet store located inside the Nittany Mall is shutting its doors after nine years in business.

Finatics Aquarium & Pet Center is conducting a going-out-of-business sale and has not yet set a final closing date, according to the store’s outgoing voicemail message on Friday. “Store closing” and “everything must go” signs are also posted outside the shop.

“Thank you to all of our loyal customers who have supported us for almost a decade. We’ll miss you,” the message said.

A post on Finatics’ Facebook page in April listed the business for sale with an asking price of $240,000. The post reported gross revenue of $175,000 and inventory valued at $40,000.

Finatics began selling fish, pets and pet supplies at the northeast end of the College Township mall in 2016.

Its future has long been uncertain.

Owner Jeff Bailey posted on Facebook in July 2023 that he was looking to sell the store in order to care for family members with medical needs.

In January 2024, the mall filed a complaint in Centre County Court seeking to evict Finatics because of $19,182 in delinquent rent and utility payments. The case is still pending and a status conference is scheduled for July 16.

Finatics’ 10-year lease runs through Aug. 31, 2026, with currently monthly rent of $1,500 per month.

The store remains open for now 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
