US airport security often follows the ‘3-1-1’ rule, allowing passengers to take travel-sized bottles and containers of liquids, creams, gels, aerosols and more as long as they’re at a limit of 3.4oz (100ml) or less. These items should be stored in one clear zip-top bag of around one liter in size. The rule applies to carry-on luggage while any larger liquids must be packed in checked bags. Pilot’s wife Greta regularly shares insight into her life on the hit social media platform TikTok, as well as the occasional travel tip learned through her experiences of being married to a pilot and spending lots of time in airports.

One thing she always does – and recommends – is only ever packing carry-on luggage instead of checking her bags in.

In a recent clip, Greta can be seen standing in an airport with a small suitcase, suitable to take on board a plane. Over the top of the 20 second clip, she added her instructions.

Greta penned: “Why I pack in only carry ons:

Forces you to be organized No waiting on bags No lost bags Easier for trips where you are bouncing around”.

The pilot’s wife then added a string of tips for making packing belongings in a carry-on bag that much easier.

She advised planning outfits ahead of time, taking shoes and bags that “coordinate with multiple looks” and wearing your “chunkiest shoes on the plane”.

Greta also recommends taking a “big duffle” bag as your second carry-on bag option, utilizing packing cubes, and stocking up on travel sized items in 100ml bottles as they’re “still really big”.

In the caption accompanying the clip, she simply wrote: “I’ve never been made to check either of these [because] of size”.

In the comments section, fellow TikTok users were keen to share their thoughts. One person agreed and said: “Same I love traveling [with] just my carry ons! My husband is even better at packing and can take just a backpack on a 2 week trip lol”.

Another said: “I also only do carry-ons. Going on 6 years of only ever packing carry-ons”.

A third commented: “I do the same!!! works every time”, while another echoed this sentiment: “Yes!!! Carry on girl always”.

One person shared their caution though: “I can never fit all my liquids into one ziplock bag.. every airport is different but technically only allowed 1 quart ziplock bag”.

Someone else said: “Yea but as a curly hair girl I have too many liquids even if I get the travel size”.

One person said: “agreed but when the carry on limit is 8kg it’s impossible” and then elaborated: “It’s dependent on the airline and the route! For example, Swiss air has an 8kg limit for carry [on] for transatlantic flights.”

Someone else commented: “Your personal bag being as big as your carry on is killing me”, to which, Greta replied: “And it works every time”.

Always check your airline’s carry-on guidance and rules before traveling.

Pilot’s wife says travel ‘rule’ she swears by makes getting through airports ‘easier’

Pilot’s wife says travel ‘rule’ she swears by makes getting through airports ‘easier’ In UK airports, liquids in hand luggage are restricted to containers of 100ml or less. Normally these must be placed in a single transparent zip-lock bag measuring approximately one litre, although some airports are slowly phasing this out. Any larger liquid items still need to go in checked baggage, as they are not allowed in the carry-on area of the plane. Greta also endorses bringing a “big duffle” as an alternative second carry on option, making use of packing cubes, and opting for travel-sized items in 100ml bottles as they’re “still really big” She also suggests planning outfits in advance, choosing shoes and bags that “coordinate with multiple looks” and recommended wearing your “chunkiest shoes on the plane”

A pilot’s wife has revealed the top travel “rule” she swears by when flying, claiming it makes journeys significantly “easier”. Packing remains one of the least enjoyable aspects of travel preparation, even when heading off on an exciting holiday or weekend break.

Whilst different airlines operate varying procedures, there are typically stringent regulations regarding liquids. In UK airports, liquids in hand luggage are restricted to containers of 100ml or less. Normally these must be placed in a single transparent zip-lock bag measuring approximately one litre, although some airports are slowly phasing this out. Any larger liquid items still need to go in checked baggage.

One person who has spent a lot of time at airports is Greta, a pilot’s wife who frequently offers glimpses into her lifestyle on the popular social media platform TikTok. She also shares occasional travel advice gleaned from her experiences as a pilot’s partner and countless hours spent in airports.

One practice she consistently follows – and advocates – is exclusively travelling with hand luggage rather than checking bags.

In a recent video, Greta appears at an airport carrying a compact suitcase designed for cabin use. Throughout the 20-second footage, she provided her guidance.

Greta wrote: “Why I pack in only carry ons:

Forces you to be organised

No waiting on bags

No lost bags

Easier for trips where you are bouncing around”.

The pilot’s wife then shared a series of handy tips to make packing in a carry-on bag much simpler.

She suggested planning outfits in advance, choosing shoes and bags that “coordinate with multiple looks” and recommended wearing your “chunkiest shoes on the plane”.

Greta also endorses bringing a “big duffle” as an alternative second carry-on option, making use of packing cubes, and opting for travel-sized items in 100ml bottles as they’re “still really big”.

In her video caption, she stated: “I’ve never been made to check either of these [because] of size”.
