Following the recent stampede in a temple at Kasibugga in Srikakulam district, the Anakapalli police has decided to increase security at major temples, especially on Mondays and other auspicious days of ‘Karthika Masam’, considering the heavy rush of devotees. Traffic regulation and CCTV surveillance are also being arranged.

This apart, the district police have made comprehensive arrangements on beaches, riverbanks, parks, temples and other spots across the district in view of large gatherings for picnics.

Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha said swimmers and life guards have been deployed, adding that special focus will be given to the safety of women. Patrolling has been intensified at these spots to prevent thefts, pickpocketing and eve-teasing.

“The police is taking all steps to ensure that devotees can observe the holy Karthika Masam peacefully and safely. We request devotees to follow police guidelines and cooperate with the department to ensure their own safety,” he said. Any violations of rules or acts causing inconvenience to the public will be dealt with strictly,” he added.
