Last year, this space described the myriad and sometimes hard to predict ways business operations have changed in recent years, most notably with the continuing evolution of technology. Well, those of us who compile lists of top business professionals have had to change with the times as well.

The Finance Power List represents a natural evolution from the Accounting Power 50 NJBIZ had been assembling every year. The shift represents a recognition that businesses need a wide array of financial services – from auditing and tax to investment banking to finance-related IT assistance. The honorees on this list have demonstrated exceptional abilities in those areas.

Accountants are and will remain crucial advisers to business owners and executives, alongside M&A pros, fintech specialists and planning experts. Readers will recognize that CPAs still occupy many of the slots on the following pages.

This list was also designed to capture some of the complexities of modern finance. And it should continue to evolve as the business environment changes. Demand for the expertise offered by all of these professionals will only become greater in the face of ongoing trade disputes and other geopolitical developments that dominate the headlines and confound decision makers. Our honorees have shown that they are meeting the challenge.

Keep all of that in mind as you read through the first NJBIZ Finance Power List. And please let us know what you think of the honorees’ work, the choices made in compiling the list and whether we missed anyone.

As always, the honorees are listed in alphabetical order.

Power List Methodology

The power lists are compiled by the NJBIZ editorial staff based on our reporting throughout the past year with input from experts in a variety of fields and recommendations from our readers. The staff looks for people who have gained public attention – and perhaps acclaim – for their professional accomplishments and public service. Each list identifies individuals who, through their efforts, are helping to make New Jersey a better place to live, work and do business. Honorees are not necessarily better at their jobs than others in their profession, but they have contributed meaningfully to the advancement of the public interest through their work and/or community service.
