Raja’s elder brother said Sonam and Raj have given conflicting statements during police interrogation, seemingly to mislead investigators and shield one another.

The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore businessman murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, plans to approach the Meghalaya High Court to demand narco-analysis tests for his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi and co-accused Raj Kushwaha.

Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, said that the motive remains unclear and narco tests could reveal the truth. “The motive behind my brother’s murder is still unclear. Narco tests on Sonam and Kushwaha can provide clues about it. Therefore, we will soon file a petition in the Meghalaya High Court for conducting narco tests on both accused,” Vipin was quoted as saying by PTI.

Vipin Raghuvanshi also said that Sonam and Raj have given conflicting statements during police interrogation, seemingly to mislead investigators and shield one another, The New Indian Express reported.

The family also suspects financial motives. Vipin claimed Sonam and Kushwaha had started a firm earlier this year, operated through a bank account in Kushwaha’s mother’s name, with transactions worth Rs 7.5–8 lakh.

In a new development, Lokendra Singh Tomar, owner of the Indore flat where Sonam hid for nine days after the murder, was detained in Gwalior for questioning. The New Indian Express cited Gwalior Range DIG Amit Sanghi as saying that Meghalaya Police are en route to interrogate him.

This follows the arrests of building contractor Shilom James and security guard Balveer Ahirwar, who allegedly helped Sonam evade capture between 30 May and 7 June. Ahirwar reportedly destroyed a black bag left behind by Sonam, believed to contain a laptop, cash, jewellery and a pistol. James allegedly burned the bag behind his house, with forensic analysis pending. Seven people, including Sonam and Kushwaha, have been arrested so far.

The high-profile murder case has shocked the nation, involving alleged conspiracy, financial motives and a suspected love triangle. Raja, who was in the transport business, went missing on May 23 during his honeymoon in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. The couple had married on May 11 in Indore and travelled to the northeast on May 20. His decomposed body was recovered from a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra (Cherrapunji) region on June 2.
