Register-Guard hires new high school sports reporter: Meet Jarrid Denney
Jarrid Denney is The Register-Guard’s new sports reporter covering high school athletics. He replaces Edith Noriega, who left earlier this year. Denney was previously a University of Oregon football and basketball reporter. He will continue to report to Jesse Sowa, who edits sports for the paper and Statesman Journal. A Cottage Grove High School and University of Oregon graduate, Denney comes to The Register-Guard from the Statesman Journal, where he covered high school sports and Oregon State football and baseball.
Denney recently covered Oregon State baseball’s run at the College World Series.
Denney was previously a University of Oregon football and basketball reporter for On3.com, a reporter at the Corvallis Gazette-Times and an associate reporter with MLB.com. He also contributed to The Register-Guard as a freelancer while he was a UO student.
“For as long as I have been a journalist, working at The Register-Guard has been a dream,” Denney said. “It’s my hometown paper, and I was lucky enough to get my start there as a freelancer when I was still in college. I couldn’t be more thrilled to add to the R-G’s incredible legacy and bring meaningful stories to its readers.”
