Rochester, N.Y. — The Rochester Center for Rehab and Long-Term Care hosted its annual Care that Moves You luau celebration on Wednesday , aiming to motivate residents to stay active and maintain good health.

The event featured tropical-themed games and a hula hoop challenge designed to encourage healthy lifestyles through movement.

“People think of nursing homes as somewhere where it’s just boring, this and that. We do things like this all the time. Today is about getting up, moving,” said a representative from the center.

The center believes that healthy movement is not only a good way for residents to keep their bodies stronger and better able to withstand falls and accidents, but an ongoing goal.

The Care That Moves You initiative incorporates group exercise and movement events designed to combat isolation and loneliness.
