Russia Launched Record 479 Drones in Overnight Attack on Ukraine
Russia launched a record 479 drones at Ukraine in overnight air attacks, Ukraine’s air force says. There were no immediate reports of deaths or mass casualties. Ukraine also said it carried out an overnight strike on an electronics factory in Russia.
“Enemy air strikes were recorded in 10 locations,” the Ukrainian air force said. There were no immediate reports of deaths or mass casualties.
The mayor of Rivne, a city in western Ukraine, called it “the largest attack” on his region since the start of the war.
Russia has ramped up its air assaults in recent weeks, with Ukraine accusing Moscow of having no intention of ending the war or engaging earnestly in peace talks.
The sustained attacks have raised concerns about the capacity of Ukraine’s increasingly strained air defense systems.
Still, Ukrainian forces said they shot down or intercepted 460 of the drones, as well as 19 of the 20 missiles launched during the assault.
Ukraine also said it carried out an overnight strike on an electronics factory in Russia that is said to produce components for drones. Local officials in Russia said the plant had to temporarily suspend production following the attack.

Officials said one person was injured in the attack.

Russia launched 479 drones at Ukraine in the biggest overnight drone bombardment of the 3-year war, the Ukrainian air force said Monday, as the Kremlin presses its summer offensive against the backdrop of direct peace talks.
As well as drones, 20 missiles of various types were fired at different parts of Ukraine, according to the air force, which said the barrage targeted mainly central and western areas of Ukraine.

It was not possible to independently verify the claims.
A recent escalation in aerial attacks has coincided with a renewed Russian battlefield push on eastern and northeastern parts of the roughly 1,000-kilometre (620-mile) front line.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said late Sunday that in some of those areas “the situation is very difficult”. He provided no details.
Russia’s aerial attacks usually start late in the evening and end in the morning, because drones are harder to spot in the dark.

“Enemy air strikes were recorded in 10 spots,” the Ukrainian air force said.
The mayor of the western city of Rivne, Oleksandr Tretyak, called it “the largest attack” on the region since the start of the war.
Russia has escalated its attacks across Ukraine in recent weeks, which Kiev says demonstrate that Moscow has no intention of halting the three-year-long war and is not serious about peace talks.
The barrages have raised concerns about the capacity of Ukraine’s stretched air defence systems.
But the air force said that it shot down or intercepted 460 of the drones, as well as 19 out of 20 missiles fired by Russia overnight.
Ukraine also said it had launched its own overnight strike on an electronics factory that makes parts for Russian drones, with local Russian officials saying the facility had to temporarily suspend production after the attack.
