Russia slams Trump’s Ukraine war negotiation deadline as ‘an exercise in futility’
Russia rejects President Trump’s demands to end its war on Ukraine this week. Kremlin’s top spokesman tells reporters that setting “hard deadlines” is “an exercise in futility” Moscow may be ready to take on talks directly with Ukraine — and they may have to if Trump follows through on his threat to abandon his peace talks initiative. Trump on Friday said he was ready to move on from his push for peace in Ukraine should a deal not come together “within days.’“The issue of the [Ukrainian] settlement is extremely complex, of course, so it is hardly possible to set some hard deadlines and try to rush the resolution of the conflict into a shortened timeframe,” Dmitry Peskov told Russian outlet VGTRK on Tuesday.

OPINION: Drone Wall in Action, Blasts and Bombs, Dead Deals, Estonia and Some Humor
This looks like one of those weeks when the Ukrainians took it to the Russians more than usual. The last few days have, as in the past, attested, pretty convincingly, of lethal Ukrainian defense capacity becoming more lethal. By the end of the week, the basic facts of the basic battle filtered back to me via a soldier. Ukraine blasts £38million Russian fighter jet out sky over Black Sea using missile-armed sea drone in ‘world first’
Footage shows moment a Russian jet is shot down by a sea drone. It is the first time in history that a warplane has been destroyed by a drone. The strike comes just two days after the U.S. and Ukraine signed a deal to end the war in the east of the country. Russia has not commented on the latest strike, but it is believed to have been carried out by a Ukrainian unit. It comes after the US said it would no longer be acting as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict. The White House said the move was due to a lack of progress in the peace talks between Russia and the West. The U.N. Security Council is expected to vote on the deal in the next few days. It will decide whether or not to extend the ceasefire until the end of the year. The US and Ukraine are still trying to reach an agreement on a long-term peace deal, which would see Russia pull out of the Mideast. The deal would also see the US withdraw its troops from Afghanistan, which has been at the centre of the war.

Zelensky slams US lack of response to Putin truce rejection
Two people killed in Moscow’s latest aerial bombardment of Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky warns Moscow is stepping up its aerial attacks. Russia claimed the capture of a village in Ukraine’s Sumy region in a rare cross-border advance, but Ukraine branded that as “disinformation” Russia has launched more than 1,460 guided aerial bombs, nearly 670 attack drones, and over 30 missiles of various types on Ukraine, Zelenski said. US President Donald Trump is pushing the two sides to agree a partial ceasefire, but has so far failed to broker an accord to both sides. French President Emmanuel Macron calls for a stronger response to Russia’s refusal to agree to a full ceasefire in the more than three-year-long war. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, denounced Russia’s “reckless disregard” for human life in using “an explosive base with wide effects”. The latest attacks came two days after a missile attack on the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rig killed 18 people including nine children.

Zelensky cuts short South Africa trip after deadly Russian strikes on Kyiv
“Massive” Russian missile attack on Kyiv on Thursday killed at least twelve and wounded dozens. It was one of the deadliest strikes on the Ukrainian capital since Moscow launched its invasion more than three years ago. The attack drew a rare rebuke of Russian President Vladimir Putin from US President Donald Trump. The attacks throw yet more doubt on already fraught US efforts to push Russia and Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire, hours after Trump lashed out at his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for refusing to accept Moscow’s occupation of the Crimean peninsula as a condition for peace. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Zelenski of derailing peace talks in London and said he was ready to torpedo the settlement process at any price. “Putin shows only a desire to kill,” added Andriy Yermak, a top Zelenky aide. The interior ministry said damage was recorded at 13 separate locations across the capital, with more than 70 cars destroyed. The search will continue until we are confident that we have found everyone, interior minister Igor Klymenko said.
