Nine killed in strike on bus in Ukraine’s Sumy region, officials say
Russia used a “deliberate killing of civilians” and said that Russia could choose to stop the killings and agree to a ceasefire. “Honestly, I will [impose sanctions], if we’re not going to make a deal,” Trump told Fox News. “Without stronger sanctions, without stronger pressure on Russia, they will not seek real diplomacy.” “This is not just another shelling — it is a cynical war crime,’ the author said. ‘This is. not just a day after. Russian and Ukrainian representatives met for direct talks for the first time in three years in Istanbul on Friday.’ ‘If it goes ahead, this will be by far the largest prisoner since the war began,’ the writer said. ‘If it doesn’t go ahead, it’s going to be by the end of the year’ ‘‘ the author added.

“We don’t want to give in now, but we are ready to fight for a year, two, three – as long as it takes, or we will never say “what’s” more than “one” or “three” “or “four” is “more’ than ‘one’ or ‘three’ is not ““ ”“Next time it will be eight [regions],” she wrote on X-ran, or the “next time it is also our to return [what is Russias] and strengthen [the country.]” We will never “give in” the way we said we would “change” a “something” to “the way we’ve never said “that” we will “never” say ‘that or ”something’ – or we would never say that “anything” would be more than one thing. “We’re not going to tell you how long it would take for us to

Russia takes tough stance in Istanbul talks, threatens Ukraine with long war
Talks between Russia and Ukraine lasted just two hours in Istanbul on Friday. The two sides came to a concrete agreement only on a prisoner swap. Ukraine did see that agreement as a major achievement. But the rest of the talks were clouded by a number of demands that Ukrainians found unacceptable, including that Ukraine withdraw from its own territory that Russia only partly controls. The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, told the Ukrainians: “Perhaps someone at this table will lose even more of their loved ones. Russia is ready to wage war forever.’“We agreed that each side will present its vision for the possible future ceasefire and write it out in detail,” Ukraine’s foreign minister said.“Never try to deceive the Russians and steal something from them, because sooner or later Russians always come to claim what is theirs,’ Medinsky said, attributing the quote to Otto von Bismarck, the legendary 19th-century German statesman. “We think it will be reasonable to continue our negotiations.”

Negotiations in Istanbul: Russia threatened to seize two more regions of Ukraine – The Economist
Russia threatened to completely seize the Kharkiv and Sumy regions if Ukraine did not withdraw its troops from the territories of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Kherson regions. Russia said it would agree to a ceasefire only if Ukraine left the four “annexed” regions it does not fully control. Earlier, a Ukrainian diplomatic source reported in a comment to the media that Russia’s demands at the Istanbul talks are “unrealistic”

Live updates: Ukraine’s allies call Russian demands unacceptable after first talks in years
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not travel to Turkey for talks with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. Putin called for direct talks at the weekend, having rejected a call from Kyiv and its allies for a 30-day truce. The Russian delegation is headed by Vladimir Medinsky, Putin’s senior aide and a hardliner who led the Russian side during the last known direct talks between the two countries, in the spring of 2022. The Ukrainian president derided the makeup of that Russian team, having said he won’t meet any Russian official but Putin. But he added that, “out of respect” for US President Donald Trump and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he would send a team led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

Russia is targeting Ukrainian hotels to discourage journalists, report says
Russia has struck 25 hotels near Ukraine’s front lines from the beginning of the war in 2022 through March. 24 journalists had been injured and one killed in hotel strikes since the war began. Russia has often said hotels are legitimate targets because Ukrainian military guests or foreign mercenaries stay there. The Russian Defense Ministry did not respond to a request for comment about a report by the media rights group Reporters Without Borders and a Ukrainian organization, Truth Hounds. It found that 64 percent of journalists considered that Russia’S increased strikes on hotels had complicated their ability to work in the war zone, the report said. The attacks were “part of a broader strategy aimed at discouraging independent reporting from the front line,” it said.“Many journalists now avoid hotels near the front, some suspend fieldwork, and most face logistical challenges. This hampers reporting,’ said Pauline Maufrais, regional officer for Ukraine at RSF.

Planned Russia-Ukraine talks upend European push for U.S. sanctions on Moscow
The promise of direct talks between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul has derailed European efforts to get the U.S. on board with new sanctions. Russia only revealed late Wednesday it was sending a low-level delegation of deputy ministers. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there were no plans to meet them. The meeting would mark the first sign of movement in negotiations that appear to have been stalled for weeks, as well as the first direct talks since the early months of Russia’s 2022 invasion. The diplomatic flurry in Turkey underscored how each side has had to maneuver to sway Trump and avoid being seen as an obstacle to achieving his ambition of a deal. The continent’s leaders have still pushed for coordinated European and American sanctions, possibly targeting the financial and energy sectors, to pressure the Kremlin into halting the fighting. But their uncertainty about whether Washington will follow through has deepened, with European officials describing Putin’s call for the meeting as a stalling tactic. The talks are being seized on as a possible breakthrough in efforts to end the war.
