Drawn by Spirituality, Russian Woman Found Living in Hill Cave with Kids in Karnataka Photo : Times Now

Bengaluru: A Russian woman and her two young children were found living in a remote cave in the Ramatirtha hills of Kumta taluk, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, on Saturday, said the Karnataka Police. The officials discovered the family while patrolling the area following a recent landslide and were drawn to the spot after noticing clothes hanging out to dry. Inside the cave, officers found a modest living space, complete with a Rudra idol, where the woman had been spending her days in prayer and meditation.

The woman, identified as 40-year-old Mohi, had been living in the cave for nearly two weeks with her daughters, six-year-old Preya and four-year-old Ama. The area is surrounded by dense forest and steep slopes, making the location difficult to access and easy to overlook.

“They had been living in the cave for nearly two weeks, surrounded by dense woods and steep slopes, where Mohi spent her days in puja and meditation, seeking spiritual peace. The police team spotted clothes hung out to dry near the cave during a routine patrol after a recent landslide,” said the police.

According to police, Mohi entered India on a business visa which expired in 2017. While it’s not yet clear how long she has been in the country, officers believe she travelled to the cave from Goa. Mohi was drawn to the sacred coastal town of Gokarna, reportedly due to her interest in Hindu philosophy and Indian spiritual traditions. The police have arranged for Mohi’s stay in an ashram run by a Sadhv and the deportation process has been initiated.

During their stay in the cave, the family had been surviving through unknown means, the police said. Their presence in such a remote location had gone unnoticed until the patrol team happened to pass by.
