Sea Dogs Win Streak Snapped, Fall 5-1 to Rumble Ponies
The Portland Sea Dogs (1-1, 35-34) had their four game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, as they fell 5-1 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. The Sea Dogs moved to 1-1 the second-half, currently tied for second place in the Eastern League Northeast Division Standings. LHP Eduardo Rivera (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his Double-A debut tomorrow night for the Sea Dogs. RHP TJ Shook (5-0) received the win tossing 3.0 shutout innings of four-hit ball while striking out one and walking one. The two teams will continue their six-game showdown tomorrow June 26, at 6:07 PM.
Binghamton, New York – The Portland Sea Dogs (1-1, 35-34) had their four game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, as they fell 5-1 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1-1, 46-23) at Mirabito Stadium. The Sea Dogs moved to 1-1 the second-half, currently tied for second place in the Eastern League Northeast Division Standings.
Portland started the scoring in the top of the first. Mikey Romero roped a leadoff single and then advanced to second on a single by James Tibbs III. In the next at-bat, a groundout moved Romero to third and Tibbs III to second. The next batter Zach Ehrhard cracked an RBI single that scored Romero and gave the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead.
Binghamton countered in the bottom of the first. With one out, Carson Benge worked a walk. In the ensuing at-bat, Nick Morabito doubled which moved Benge to third. Ryan Clifford followed with an RBI single that tied the game 1-1. The next batter Jacob Reimer hit a sacrifice fly that scored Morabito and gave the Rumble Ponies a 2-1 lead.
The Rumble Ponies scratched another run across in the bottom of the second. JT Schwartz worked a leadoff walk. The next batter D’Andre Smith laced a single that moved Schwartz to second. After a groundout moved both runners into scoring position, William Lugo hit a sacrifice fly that brought in another run which increased Binghamton’s lead to 3-1.
Binghamton scored two more in the bottom of the sixth. Two consecutive singles from Morabito and Clifford yielded a runner in scoring position for the Rumble Ponies. In the next at-bat, Reimer laced a single that scored Morabito and gave the Rumble Ponies a 4-1 advantage. Two batters later, Kevin Parada cranked a double that brought in Clifford and increased Binghamton’s lead to 5-1.
RHP TJ Shook (5-0, 3.07 ERA) received the win tossing 3.0 shutout innings of four-hit ball while striking out one and walking one. RHP Caleb Bolden (0-2, 12.80 ERA) was tagged with the loss, hurling 2.2 innings of three-run ball (all earned) while surrendering four hits, two walks, and tallied two strikeouts.
The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies will continue their six-game showdown tomorrow Thursday June 26, at 6:07 PM. LHP Eduardo Rivera (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his Double-A debut tomorrow night for the Sea Dogs. RHP Joander Suarez (2-2, 4.05 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Rumble Ponies.
David Sandlin Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week
David Sandlin has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week of June 16-22nd. He previously won the award for a complete game shutout on Thursday, May 29th in Altoona. Sandlin tossed 6.0 no-hit innings on Sunday, June 22nd without allowing a run against the Akron RubberDucks. He matched his season-high with nine strikeouts and he issued three walks. This season, Sandlin is 4-3 with a 3.90 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) He has tossed 60.0 innings allowing 26 runs on 52 hits while walking 19 and striking out 62. He ranks seventh in the Eastern League in WHIP (1.18) and ninth in winning percentage (.571)
Portland, Maine – Portland Sea Dogs’ right-handed pitcher David Sandlin has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week of June 16-22nd. It is the second time this season Sandlin has earned the honor. He previously won the award for a complete game shutout on Thursday, May 29th in Altoona.
Sandlin tossed 6.0 no-hit innings on Sunday, June 22nd without allowing a run against the Akron RubberDucks. He matched his season-high with nine strikeouts and he issued three walks.
This season, Sandlin is 4-3 with a 3.90 ERA in 12 games (11 starts). He has tossed 60.0 innings allowing 26 runs on 52 hits while walking 19 and striking out 62. He ranks seventh in the Eastern League in WHIP (1.18) and ninth in winning percentage (.571).
The 24-year-old entered the 2025 season ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox’ number seven prospect and number two pitching prospect. Baseball America also rates him as having the organization’s best slider.
Portland’s no-hitter on Sunday was the eighth in franchise history. After Sandlin’s six innings, Christopher Troye added two innings of shutout ball in relief. Jonathan Brand closed the game, hurling one inning while tallying two strikeouts. The last time the Sea Dogs threw a combined no-hitter was on July 23, 2023 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Wikelman Gonzalez, Brendan Cellucci and Luis Guerrero).
This is the fourth time a Sea Dog has been honored with a league award this season. Infielder Blaze Jordan previously won Player of the Week for the week of May 19th through the 25th and also Player of the Month for May, in addition to Sandlin’s previous Player of the Week honor.
The Kansas City Royals drafted Sandlin in the 11th round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired by the Red Sox from the Royals in exchange for a right-handed pitcher, John Schreiber, on February 17, 2024.
The Sea Dogs are on the road this week in Binghamton, New York to take on the Rumble Ponies in a six-game series that begins tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24th at 6:07pm. They return home for a three-game series beginning on Friday, July 4th at 6:20pm. There will be postgame fireworks on the Fourth of July, then the Sea Dogs will rebrand as the Maine Red Snappers on July 5th and it is Scooby Doo Day on July 6th. Carson Benge and IF Jacob Reimer have been promoted to Double-A Binghamton. Benge is the Mets #3 prospect (all rankings according to MLB Pipeline) and #83 prospect in all of baseball. Reimer was selected by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2022 draft out of Yucaipa High School (CA) The Rumble Ponies are coming off a 45-22 first half in which they won the Northeast Division and are heading back to the Eastern League Playoffs for the second time in three years. The team plays 15 of their next 18 games at home, starting Tuesday night at 6:07 p.m.
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Mets, announced Monday that OF Carson Benge and IF Jacob Reimer have been promoted to Double-A Binghamton.
Benge is the Mets #3 prospect (all rankings according to MLB Pipeline) and #83 prospect in all of baseball. Drafted by the Mets as the 19th overall pick in the 2024 draft out of Oklahoma State, Benge has had a torrid season so far with High-A Brooklyn. He has a slash line of .302/.417/.480 with an .897 OPS. He has four home runs, 37 RBIs, and 68 hits in 60 games.
Benge and Reimer are tied atop the South Atlantic League (SAL) leaderboard with 18 doubles. Benge is also second in the SAL with 47 runs scored, third in on-base percentage and OPS, 4th in batting average and XBH (27), and 5th in slugging percentage. The Yukon, Oklahoma native also stole 15 bases in 17 attempts.
Benge, 22, was a finalist for the John Olerud Award following his junior year at Oklahoma State, awarded by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation’s top combo pitcher-position player.
Reimer, the 17th ranked prospect in the Mets organization, is slashing .274/.384/.502 with an .886 OPS, along with eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 61 games with the Cyclones. The 21-year-old leads the SAL with 52 runs scored, tied for second in XBH (30), third in slugging percentage, and 4th in OPS and hits (65).
Reimer was selected by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2022 draft out of Yucaipa High School (CA).
Binghamton plays 15 of their next 18 games at home, starting Tuesday night at 6:07 p.m. as they open a six-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox AA).
The Rumble Ponies are coming off a 45-22 first half in which they won the Northeast Division and are heading back to the Eastern League Playoffs for the second time in three years.

Sea Dogs RHP David Sandlin (4-3, 3.90 ERA) received the win, tossing six scoreless innings while tying his season-high strikeout total of nine. Portland tallied 12 hits on the afternoon. The Sea Dogs will have an off day on Monday before traveling to Binghamton to start the second half of the season with a six-game road trip against the Binghampton Rumble Ponies on Tuesday night June 24, at 6:07PM EST. Probable’s for the matchup have yet to be announced, but the game is expected to be played at 7:05pm.

ortland ambushed Akron in the bottom of the first. With one out, Max Ferguson singled and then advanced to third on a single by Ronald Rosario. Following a walk issued to Caden Rose which loaded the bases, a wild pitch brought home Ferguson from third to give the Sea Dogs a 1-0 advantage. Then Drew Ehrhard ripped a two-run single that scored Rosario and Rose to give the Sea Dogs a 3-0 lead. The next batter Ahbram Liendo laced a single which moved Ehrhard to third. In the next at-bat, Luis Ravelo peppered an RBI single that increased the Sea Dogs lead to 4-0.
The Sea Dogs struck again in the bottom of the third. D.Ehrhard got the inning started with a double and then moved to third when Liendo reached on an error. With runners on the corners, a balk was committed by the RubberDucks pitcher which allowed D.Ehrhard to score and made the game 5-0. After the balk, Ravelo (1) launched a two-run home run to extend Portland’s lead to 7-0.
Portland scratched another run in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff walk surrendered to Ferguson, who then advanced to second on a single by Allan Castro. Ferguson reached third on a wild pitch. After another out was recorded, Rosario grounded out which brought home Ferguson to give the Sea Dogs an 8-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs notched two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. D.Ehrhard drew a leadoff walk to start the inning. A batter later, Ravelo drew a walk which put a runner in scoring position. The next batter Juan Chacon walked to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Ferguson punched a two-run single that increased Portland’s lead to 10-0.
Portland tallied 12 hits on the afternoon.
RubberDucks RHP Dylan DeLucia (2-1, 3.86 ERA) was given the loss hurling 3.0 innings of seven-run ball (six earned) on seven hits and struck out four while walking two.

The Rumble Pony bullpen kept them in the game with two strikeouts and stranded the bases loaded in the sixth inning. The Ponies continue their six-game home series against the Sea Dogs (Double-A, Boston Red Sox) on Wednesday.

Shortstop Marvin Alcantara hit a two-run double with two outs, after an error extended the inning, which made both runs unearned. The Sea Dogs extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning on catcher Ronald Rosario’s RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, first baseman Ryan Clifford (1-for-4, HR, RBI, R, K) crushed a solo home run to right-center field off left-hander Hayden Mullins (2-2) that cut Binghamton’s deficit to 3-1. It marked Clifford’s 13th home run, which ranks third in Double-A and second in the Eastern League.
Portland extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from right fielder James Tibbs III.
Binghamton responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut its deficit to 4-3. Designated hitter Nick Lorusso (1-for-3, R, 2B, BB) led off the frame with a double and later scored on catcher Kevin Parada’s RBI single. On the single, Parada (1-for-3, RBI, R, 2 K) advanced to third on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Wenninger took the loss, but tossed 5+ innings for the 11th-time in 14 starts this season. Wenninger also allowed two earned runs or fewer for the 11th-time. His final line: L, 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 82 pitches (50 strikes).
The Rumble Ponies’ bullpen kept them in the game. Right-hander Carlos Guzman recorded two strikeouts and stranded the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Right-hander Hunter Parsons threw two perfect innings with two strikeouts on his 28th birthday. Right-hander Cameron Foster tossed a scoreless ninth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, Binghamton brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate. Third baseman Jacob Reimer (0-for-3, HBP, K) was hit by a pitch with one out in the frame and reached base for the first time in his Double-A career. The next two batters were retired, as right-hander Yovanny Cruz recorded his fourth save.
The Rumble Ponies continue their six-game home series against the Sea Dogs (Double-A, Boston Red Sox) on Wednesday at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:07 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM.
