Six female seniors at SFA have filed lawsuit against the school to save the women’s sports cut by SFA as a cost-cutting measure. The hearing held Wednesday and Thursday is to determine if SFA would have to temporarily reinstate the sports until the lawsuit is determined.
Gina Oglesby, the senior vice president for organizational effectiveness, was on the stand for SFA. Oglesby said university funds, combined with ticket sales and royalties are used to fund the athletic department. She said the athletic department could not be funded on its own through revenues. She also said the proposal to cut the programs was brought before the president’s cabinet and there were no alternative plans proposed to save the men’s and women’s golf teams, the bowling team or the beach volleyball team.
