A woman missed her dream cruise and lost $300 in medical supplies after her flight was canceled, prompting a hard lesson in travel insurance.
USA, — A dream cruise turned into a frustrating and costly ordeal for one woman who learned the hard way how valuable travel insurance can be — especially for early morning flights ahead of a big trip.
Janine Foster, an experienced cruiser, was all set to embark on a much-anticipated cruise from Miami. Her 6 a.m. Frontier Airlines flight was scheduled to get her there with plenty of time before the ship’s departure. But then the delays began.
“Then it was 7:45, then at 8 minutes to 8 — ‘Sorry for the inconvenience, this flight has been canceled,’” Foster said.
With just six hours between her canceled flight and the cruise departure, there was no time to rebook. Foster not only missed her trip, but also lost $300 worth of kidney dialysis medication that had already been loaded onto the ship—medicine that spoiled in transit.
“My supplies went on a 6-day cruise!” she said.

Travel insurance : Covers lost baggage, emergency medical treatment, and evacuations.
: Covers lost baggage, emergency medical treatment, and evacuations. Trip cancellation insurance: Offers reimbursement for canceled trips due to illness, weather, or job loss.
While travel insurance can add $100 to $200 to your trip, it could protect you from significantly greater losses if something goes wrong.
In Foster’s case, Frontier Airlines agreed to reimburse her for both the canceled flight and her lost medical supplies after the news station reached out.
