Manchester United’s transfer window is already unravelling with top striker target Liam Delap having snubbed the Red Devils in favour of Chelsea. In a piece of more welcome news Matheus Cunha is on his way to Old Trafford for £62.5million.

United’s recruitment chiefs will now turn their focus to a new striker. Their initial plan had been to sign Ipswich’s Delap for around £30m, but that pursuit is in tatters, with the Englishman instead heading to Chelsea.

That has forced United to look into alternative targets, such as Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. The Bees are keen to get their money’s worth out of the 25-year-old, who still has another year on his contract, with a club option for an extra 12 months.

But a big fee is not something United are likely going to be able to raise, without major sales. One player who is looking to leave is Antony, with the winger closing in on a move to Real Betis.

The Brazilian spent the second half of the season on loan at the La Liga side and hopes to make it permanent. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news.

Paul Scholes urges Man Utd to sell Bruno Fernandes for two glaring reasons READ MORE:

Mbeumo warning sent

Manchester United will have to pay out a mega fee for Bryan Mbeumo if they want to sign the Brentford star. Bees boss Thomas Frank has insisted that his club will not be afraid to reject bids they deem to be too low.

“It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot,” Frank told tipsbladet. “Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done.

“There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for. I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. He is a good player.”

Antony talks scheduled

Real Betis have scheduled talks with United chiefs over a deal for Antony

Manchester United and Real Betis chiefs will meet next week to discuss the transfer of Antony. The Brazilian flop spent the second half of the season on loan at Betis and hopes to make that move permanent.

According to Marca, one of the first ‘pending issues’ of the summer for Betis is the signing of Antony. There is said to be ‘enourmous satisfaction’ with his performances since his arrival in January, with ‘complete and absolute consenus’ to bring him back permanently.

Betis have now scheduled a meeting with United chiefs for next week to assess the various scenarios. Nothing has been ruled out yet, including another loan deal, with Antony set to be forced to take a pay cut if he wants to return to Betis.

Striker bid fails

Manchester United’s bid to sign Jonathan David looks to be over with the Canadian set to snub a move to the Premier League. David has starred for Lille but will leave the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer this summer.

United had been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, who helped to fire Lille to the French title in 2021. But according to iNews, David has instead set his sights on moving to Serie A.

Italian champions Napoli and rivals Juventus are expected to battle it out for the Canadian. Napoli are the frontrunners to sign him having made David’s representatives a ‘concrete offer’, though Juve are hoping to steal in under their noses.

Amorim: The feeling I have is Fernandes wants to continue at Man Utd

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is confident Fernandes will stay at the club

It is up to the player now to decide what he wants to do, although head coach Ruben Amorim believes his skipper wants to stay at Old Trafford.

When asked if Fernandes had played his last game for United in their 3-1 friendly win over Hong Kong, Amorim replied: “I do not think so. I do not know for sure, nobody knows, but I do not think so.

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Amorim previously hailed Fernandes’ leadership qualities at the club

“I think he wants to stay, he is saying ‘no’ to a lot of things, but it shows that he wants to win and he is really good and needs to be in the best league in the world.

“Yes [we can turn down a £100m bid], we can find another way to earn money.

“Of course I am the manager, the coach, but sometimes it is the decision of the player, but of course I talk with him, I explain things and I just have that feeling. When you talk to someone, you have that feeling if he wants to stay.

“Of course in a lot of games this season he was so frustrated, but he knows what we are doing. The feeling that I have every time I speak to him is he wants to continue for sure at Man Utd. But you never know.”

United want to keep Fernandes, but Al Hilal believe every player has a price – especially one who will be 31 in September.

The Portugal international signed a contract extension last summer until 2027 with the option of a further 12 months.

Al Hilal ready to make Ronaldo move

Al Hilal have also held talks about signing Cristiano Ronaldo, who will become a free agent next month if he does not sign a new contract at Al Nassr.

Al Hilal expect to have at least one big-name signing and a new head coach when they play in the Club World Cup in the United States in June.

‘I think it’s clear Fernandes will stay at Man Utd’

Sky Sports News’ chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol:

“I think Bruno Fernandes is staying.

“I just watched Ruben Amorim there and he would have been told by his media handlers that ‘you’re going to be asked about this story, it’s a massive story – just play it with a straight bat and say he’s a Manchester United player and he’s got two years left on his contract, I’m not going to talk about media speculation’.

“He didn’t do that, he came out and he gave us quite a lot.

“You could tell he’s spoken to Bruno Fernandes and Fernandes has said to him, ‘I’ve got this incredible offer, it’s like I’ve won EuroMillions, £200m over three years This is life-changing money boss but you know I’m not motivated by money. I love football, I love Manchester United’.

“I think he’s sat down and spoken to Ruben Amorim and he’s told him he is an integral part of the rebuild at Manchester United. I think he’s happy to stay.

“The clock is ticking for Al Hilal because they are playing in the Club World Cup.

“They don’t have a head coach, they’ve been trying to sign (Cristiano) Ronaldo, they’ve been trying to sign Bruno Fernandes, they’re trying to get Simone Inzaghi out of Inter.

“There is a lot going on at Al Hilal because they are flying the flag for Saudi Arabia at the Club World Cup. But looking at Ruben Amorim today I think it’s pretty clear and final that Bruno Fernandes is going to stay.”

Manchester United are desperate for cash heading into the summer transfer window after missing out on European football, with captain Bruno Fernandes in high demand

Manchester United are set to make their first signing of a pivotal summer for Ruben Amorim’s flagging reign. But the defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final and a 16th place finish in the top-flight means United will not be able to offer signings European football.

But regardless of those issues, their first deal is now within touching distance. On Tuesday, United triggered Matheus Cunha’s release clause with the Wolves star now set for a medical.

That deal will still get done despite the fact missing out on the Champions League and Europa League has left a huge hole in United’s accounts. That means that sales will almost certainly come this summer as the Red Devils scramble to comply with Profit and Sustainability rules.

One player whose future is now under threat is captain Bruno Fernandes. While United are keen to keep their influential skipper, their desperation for funds could well see him depart Old Trafford.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder, but are growing impatient. Meanwhile, flop Antony is also heading for the exit door and is pushing for a return to Real Betis.

That comes with United boss Ruben Amorim admitting that it may be difficult for him to make signings this summer if funds are not brought in. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news.

Sky Sports confirms major Premier League changes ahead of last day of season READ MORE:

Cunha set for medical

United have triggered Matheus Cunha’s £62.5million release clause with the Wolves star now set for a medical. The Red Devils failed with an audacious opening offer, but have agreed to the terms set out by the Midlands side.

Personal terms had already been agreed and the Brazilian is now closing in on a move to Old Trafford. Cunha starred in Wolves’ successful battle to beat the drop this season.

According to The Athletic, United requested to pay Cunha’s release clause over five years rather than the required two. Wolves resisted that approach though and stood firm, formally rejecting that opening offer.

After that rejection, United decided to meet the terms, with an announcement now expected sooner rather than later.

Impatient Hilal hand Fernandes ‘final offer’

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been sent a ‘final offer’ with Al-Hilal growing impatient with the midfielder. Hilal have been heavily linked with a move for the Portugal international.

The Saudi Pro League side are keen to make a blockbuster signing ahead of the Club World Cup. Having held extensive talks with Fernandes’ representatives, the Daily Mail report that Hilal have given him a final ‘take it or leave it’ offer.

He has 72 hours to reply, with the Saudi side prepared to quadruple his salary with a package worth £700,000 per week. If he agrees to move, Hilal with then submit an offer to United worth around £100million.

Amorim’s pessimistic prediction

Ruben Amorim has offered a pessimistic outlook on Manchester United’s transfer window (Image: PA )

Ruben Amorim has conceded it will be difficult for Manchester United to make new signings this summer. The embattled manager believes that financial fair play rules may well restrict their business.

“We have a plan that is to bring [in] some new players. Our big plan is to improve the team we have and improve the academy as that is our future, as it was in past. It’s not going to change so much,” he said on Tuesday.

“We have financial fair play rules, so we are not allowed to do so much this summer. The important thing is to stick together. We are going to struggle and it is not going to be everything right away. I have a feeling the team is improving and that is the most important thing.”
