MIDLAND BEACH, Staten Island (WABC) — A small Staten Island business caught up in an advertising case of mistaken identity says it’s not only costing them business, but getting them poor reviews online intended for another company.

All of it revolves around a marketing campaign which was supposed to help put some glitz in the glamour, but instead it was more like a makeup remover until 7 On Your Side stepped in to help.

Lisa Tomasetti has been running Glitzy Chicks, a glamour party business out of her home for 23 years. They offer a hair, nail and makeup party with dancing, games, entertainment and more.

She combines spa treatments with celebrations and brings the relaxation to her clients. But lately her advertising plan with Google is anything but tranquil.

The mother of two uses Google Ads to promote Glitzy Chicks.

“When I signed up, it was $1 per click, OK, so they will show your ad to as many people in your demographic as possible, doing searches that go with your key search terms,” Tomasetti said.

But there’s also another company called Glitsy Chic.

The difference has consumers confused and now ads for Glitsy Chic, a hair oil company, are sending customers, and complaints, to Tomasetti.

“It’s not only taken away from business, but I’ve got people calling me at midnight, 1 in the morning,” she said.

After two years of failing to contact anyone at Google Ads, she put 7 On Your Side in her search bar.

“I’m supposed to have someone who is going to optimize my ads’ success and help me grow my business, how could that happen if you don’t talk to people? But the most frustrating thing is when they deny me,” Tomasetti said.

So 7 On Your Side reached out to Google Ads and after cutting through the chatbots and virtual assistance, and it wasn’t easy, but we were able to put a real human in touch with their customer.

Glitzy Chicks is now mostly detangled from the other business. Tomasetti says she has learned a few lessons:

-Don’t expect one-on-one help – you won’t get a personal representative

-Do expect to do it yourself

-And buyer beware: what you’re sold may not be what you get
