So Minnesota: Relive the golden age of rail travel at the Minnesota Transportation Museum
The Minnesota Transportation Museum offers trips highlighting the golden age of rail travel. The museum also runs the Osceola St. Croix Valley Railway in Wisconsin. The Jackson Street Roundhouse was built by railroad legend James J. Hill himself.
One museum keeps Minnesota’s railroad history on track.
Josh Hoaby is the man in charge of the Minnesota Transportation Museum.
“You come in and it’s just wow,” Hoaby said. “It’s full-sized trains. You get to get up close and personal.”
The museum in St. Paul dates back six decades, but the building goes back much further.
“It’s a fully functional roundhouse and I’m told we’re one of three active public roundhouses in the country,” Hoaby said.
The Jackson Street Roundhouse was built by railroad legend James J. Hill himself.
“I think there’s a lot of nostalgia that goes with it,” Hoaby said.
