Sonam Raghuvanshi fled the scene as her husband Raja was first attacked with a machete and returned only after his death, police said, a report has claimed.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, reportedly fled the spot soon after Raja was hit with a machete for the first time by one of those hired to kill him.
According to NDTV, police said Sonam Raghuvanshi fled as Raja started crying in pain and was bleeding. She returned only after Raja had died after he was attacked multiple times.

“When he started bleeding and screaming, Sonam ran away. Vishal and the other hitmen continued to attack Raja with the machete,” one of the police officers was quoted as saying.
“Sonam returned to the spot only after Raja died in the attack,” he added.
The Meghalaya Police recreated the crime scene after they took the accused, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, to the spot where Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was found on June 2.
The police also confirmed they found the second machete, which was used to kill Raja, at the spot.
Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi, who got married in Indore on May 11, arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20.
They were reported missing on May 23.
The police recovered Raja Raghuvanshi’s body from a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2, while his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, remained missing.
She was traced and arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur in the early hours of June 9.
Subsequently, her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three others – believed to be hitmen who executed Raja Raghuvanshi- were also arrested.
Upon her arrest, Sonam claimed she was drugged, abducted, and abandoned in Ghazipur. However, the police said she had surrendered in the case.
The accused in the case were handed over to the Meghalaya Police, who were probing the other angles in the case.

Later, it was known that Sonam, in police custody, had confessed to her involvement in husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder.
