Sony Sets PlayStation 5 Price Increase Effective Aug. 21
Sony is increasing the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States by $50 beginning Thursday. The standard PlayStation 5 console is priced at $499.99, the digital version retails for $449.99 and the PlayStation 5 Pro runs at $699.99.
The new pricing structure is as follows:
PlayStation 5 – $549.99
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
Currently, the standard PlayStation 5 console is priced at $499.99, the digital version retails for $449.99 and the PlayStation 5 Pro runs at $699.99.
The pricing was announced in a blog post shared by PlayStation Wednesday, which stated: “Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”
PlayStation noted “the recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories remain unchanged, and we have no other price changes to announce for additional markets.”

PS5 Price Increases Confirmed for USA, Effective 21st August
PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro to go up in price in the USA. Prices will increase from $549.99 to $749.99 starting tomorrow, 21st August. This is only the latest PS5 console price rise, as other territories such as the UK and Europe have seen cost go up.

Sony vice president Isabelle Tomatis said the following: “Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”
This is only the latest PS5 console price rise, as other territories such as the UK and Europe have seen the cost go up in recent months. Back in May, hardware manufacturer Sony said it was considering more PS5 system price increases. It has now followed through with one for the USA.
Sony CFO Lin Tao said it would be investigating a method of “passing on” tariffs, implemented by USA president Donald Trump, to the consumer. There was also the consideration of manufacturing PS5 consoles within the USA.
The prices of PS5 accessories aren’t affected in this business update. “We have no other price changes to announce for additional markets,” concluded Tomatis.
