“Today we parted ways with a small group of valued 1047 Games team members. We’re still perfecting the Splitgate 2 gameplay experience in response to community feedback, and we are redirecting resources to build the best game for our players,” the statement said (thanks, XboxEra).
“We are sad to see our teammates go, and we are actively working to help them secure new opportunities. Further, our co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian have opted not to take salaries as we lock in to deliver the next phase of the project. It’s been a tumultuous time for 1047. Last week, Proulx apologised for causing “division in the community” following his controversial Summer Game Fest appearance, in which he wore a MAGA-style “Make FPS Great Again” hat while onstage just days after the studio apologised for a $145 cosmetic, slashing the cost to $40 and refunding the difference for those that had already purchased it.

The lay offs come at a particularly bumpy time in the studio’s history. Earlier this month, the developer was embroiled in controversy after Proulx showed up on-stage at Summer Game Fest wearing a ‘Make FPS Games Great Again Hat’ – an obvious riff on those red MAGA hats worn by Donald Trump supporters – dampening the otherwise good buzz Splitgate 2 had generated up to that point.
In that very same week, Splitgate 2’s expensive microtransactions came under fire. 1047 Games responded by slashing some of those prices in half and partially refunding anyone who had already bought them, though the game still has a ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam.

Sekiro: Even After 6 Years Nearly 70% Players Haven’t Defeated Isshin, The Sword Saint
It has been six years since Sekiro was released in the wilds. Around 70% of the players still haven’t managed to defeat the final boss. The Isshin, the Sword Saint, is one of the hardest bosses to ever exist in video games. There is an alternative final boss of the Shura ending, Isshin Ashina, who is also still undefeated by over 80% of players. These two bosses are unforgiving and require a lot of training and patience. The rhythm of parrying the opponent, the satisfaction of finally defeating an enemy who seemed impossible to beat, are unparalleled in gaming. There has not been a single game out yet that can rival the combat of this game.

Sekiro is arguably one of the most challenging games to ever exist in the history of gaming, and of course, one of the most fun ones. There has not been a single game out yet that can rival the combat of this game.
Sekiro having the best combat in gaming history is not a reach, as the fandom 100% agrees. However, despite having such a fun and addictive combat, the game’s challenging nature remains the same. It has been six years since this title was released in the wilds, and 70% of its players have yet to defeat the Isshin, the Sword Saint.
Why it matters: Unlike other souls-like games, in Sekiro, you can’t cheese the bosses. There are some cheesy tactics, but unironically, they are more difficult than fighting the actual boss.
Sekio, Game of the Year 2019, has caused many gamers to rage quit. This game has a learning curve, so if you spend enough time playing it, you are sure to get better at it. The rhythm of parrying the opponent, the satisfaction of finally defeating an enemy who seemed impossible to beat, are unparalleled.
However, it seems like the final challenge of the game, one of the hardest bosses to ever exist in video games, The Isshin, the Sword Saint, has proven to be an impossible task for nearly 70% of Sekiro’s players. Not only that, but over 80% of the players couldn’t defeat Isshin Ashina, a different version of the boss.
While the Sword Saint is extremely difficult, there are many who found Isshin Ashina more challenging. You can encounter the latter if you choose the Shura ending.
It is surprising that, even after six years, players are still unable to overcome this challenge. While there aren’t many cheesy tactics in the game, the final boss made many players play extremely defensively.
One of the famous YouTubers, Penguinz0, also resorted to this tactic. He ran up to the boss, hit him once, and did a “strategic retreat”.

It’s been a rough road for Splitgate 2, despite having an impressive ‘Open Alpha’ test back earlier in the year. The alpha’s debut of 24-player Multi-team Portal Warfare, along with the playable debut of other fresh game modes and maps, proved to be very popular and well received.

Alas, an ill-fated appearance from Ian Proulx, CEO & Co-Founder of 1047 Games at Summer Game Fest led to a fair amount of criticism. An edgy speech about the state of FPS games and accompanying edgy hat just did not go down well at all, despite the announce of a Battle Royale mode. I was in the audience – there was not a lot of applause.

While I think the decision for management to take a pay break is a savvy one, it’s a shame to see the developers that worked on the game bear the real brunt of what could have been a much smoother and smarter launch. I interviewed Ian back at Gamescom 2024, and he had big plans for success for the game. It’s a shame to see it not hitting where he imagined it would.
We recently reviewed Splitgate 2, with our Staff Writer Austin saying “Splitgate 2 is solid mechanically but underwhelming in nearly every other area. For a sequel, a game that the studio had to stop all production of the first game to focus on, it doesn’t seem to do much more to improve on the original. The inclusions over the first game, like the Battle Royale, feel tacked on and don’t add anything new to the genre. Maps, modes, weapons, abilities, and perks all feel uninspired and wholly unoriginal, and I somehow think they made portals less effective in the sequel than in the first game.
While there are worse shooters on the market than Splitgate 2, there are a ton of better ways to spend your time as well. The game is free, so it’s worth a download if you’re curious, but I’m not sure you’ll end up wanting to spend a ton of time on the game as it currently sits.“

While the current console generation is quite far from over, considering the small number of games we have, news about the next-gen consoles has already started surfacing online. This time, we have information on both the competitors.
It is claimed that both the PS6 and next-gen Xbox are supposed to launch in 2027, and will feature AMD’s AI-based UDNA architecture, which will be an upgrade over the current RDNA-based graphics.
Why it matters: 2027 will mark 7 years since the release of PS5 and Xbox Series, which will put it just in line with the time frame of the last-gen consoles.
According to Kepler, a well-known leaker, PS6 and the next-gen Xbox will launch with AMD UDNA graphics. It’ll feature a 20% jump in performance over RDNA4 in raster and twice the increase in ray tracing abilities.
Like the current generation, the consoles won’t have any 3D cache. This would be upsetting for the fans, as there were rumors of it. However, based on this, it doesn’t seem like the next-gen consoles will receive too big of a power boost.
Nonetheless, as upscaling has become a central part of gaming, we can expect that from the consoles. The PS5 Pro already features PSSR, which hasn’t really shown results that Sony would have expected.
However, we can expect it to get better over time. For now, the release slate for PS6 is 2027, while for next-gen Xbox, it could be moved to 2026, considering most of the companies’ heavy-hitters release next year.
