LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The best teams are the ones that feel like family, and over in Lake Arthur, that rings true in more ways than one.

“I always had a ball in my hand since I came out of the womb,” Lake Arthur quarterback, Jaxson Davis said.

Being exposed to the game at a young age has paid off for Lake Arthur quarterback Jaxson Davis as he straps up for his senior season with his dad and coach Tarius Davis right by his side.

“It’s something you would dream of. You would want your dad to be your role model, your head coach, that guy that’s right there on your side through everything. Criticism, the highs, the lows, he’s right there beside you, and you get to look and go, hey that’s not just my coach, that’s my dad too,” Jaxson Davis said.

Coach Davis spent some time coaching at McNeese and Vinton High School, but his roots lie in the small town of Lake Arthur. There, he was fortunate enough to coach both of his sons.

“That experience of having them here, having them on the sideline, coaching them, pushing them right here at Lake Arthur High School, where my wife and I are both graduates of it’s going to come to an end,” Coach Davis said.

It’s bittersweet, as Jaxson heads into his last season with the Tigers.

“There are some days we’re you’re just getting on me and I’m like Dad, just take it off a little bi,t but it’s all love in the end,” Jaxson Davis said while smiling.

“It’s a fine line for coaching your own kids, but here’s one thing about me, I’m gonna coach them like I coach everybody else. So yeah, he gets it a little bit, and he goes home and chirps at his mom a little bit, and I said hey, I’m coaching him just like I coach the rest of those kids,” Coach Davis said.

The father-son duo hopes their unique relationship equals success on the gridiron this fall.
