What to watch for in WPIAL sports for May 5, 2025: Spring sports ramp up playoff push as season winds down

In district baseball, things are tight near the top of Class 5A Sections 1 and 2. Only one game separates the top three teams in Section 1. In Section 2, only first-place Bethel Park at 9-3 in the section and second-place Peters Township at 6-4 have clinched postseason spots. The Section 1-2A championship will be decided over the next two days with the series between Burgettstown and Fort Cherry at the W&J College Complex. The final week of the regular season in WPIAL baseball, softball, lacrosse and boys volleyball is the final week for the spring sports season. The WPIal playoffs will begin on May 15 and run through May 21. The playoffs will be held on May 22 and 23.
