State Attorney General office to receive $100K mental health grant
State Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Thursday that his office would be receiving a $100,000 grant from the Attorney General Alliance. The grant will go toward supporting the mental health of the office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force members as well as child victims. Wilson said the ICAC team works “tirelessly’ to prosecute people who are exploiting children online.

Wilson said that the ICAC team works “tirelessly” to prosecute people who are exploiting children online and they are exposed to a lot of “disturbing materials.”
He said the grant will help task force members to deal with their mental health.
“Dealing with such traumatic content takes a toll on their mental and emotional health, so we’re grateful for this grant that will allow us to put several new mental health tools in place, which will also help us when we deal with victims,” Wilson said in a statement.
Wilson also said that he hopes the grant money allows the ICAC office to retain more staff members.
“Dealing with such horrific material all the time has made it difficult to recruit and retain people to do this vital work in protecting our children and catching predators, so we appreciate the difference this grant from the AGA will make,” he said in a statement.
The grant money will also be used to provide “additional comfort and aid to the victims of the crimes we prosecute,” Head of the ICAC, Camille Guthrie said in a statement.

Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the approval of a $100,000 grant to support the mental health of his office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force team members and child victims. The grant will come from the Attorney General Alliance (AGA) in the hope of retaining the program’s employees and creating additional support.

“Our ICAC team works tirelessly to investigate and prosecute the predators who exploit our children online. That means our people are constantly exposed to disturbing child sexual abuse material as they catalog the photos and videos as evidence and look for victims who might still be being abused,” Attorney General Wilson said.
Attorney General Wilson also says the team member’s mental and emotional health is affected by the extent of content his office deals with.

In addition to helping the office employees, the AGA grant will be used to help child victims handle their trauma.
“The South Carolina Attorney General’s ICAC section is very appreciative of the grant awarded by the AG Alliance. This will allow our agency to provide further for the mental health needs of our dedicated investigators and attorneys, while also helping us provide additional comfort and aid to the victims of the crimes we prosecute,” Senior Assistant Deputy Attorney General Camille Guthrie, head of the ICAC section said.
The Attorney General’s Office claims that the work of their employees is vital in protecting children and is anticipating the grant makes a difference.
