Smith, 29, is coming off a career-best year in his first season with the Dolphins. In his eighth NFL season, he posted career highs in catches (88), receiving yards (884) and receiving success rate (63.1%) in 2024, while matching a previous career high with eight receiving touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference. He was Miami’s lone Pro Bowl selection last season.
Smith would add to an upgraded passing game with the trade for receiver DK Metcalf, inking free agent Robert Woods and the possible (probable?) signing of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Last season, Steelers tight ends combined for 96 receptions, 933 yards and 10 TDs, led by Pat Freiermuth’s 65 catches for 653 yards and seven scores. Pittsburgh added Donald Parham Jr. (27 catches, 285 yards, 4 TDs) in free agency and JJ Galbreath as an undrafted free agent. In four seasons at South Dakota, Galbreath had 93 reeptions for 1,355 yards and 12 TDs.

Smith signed a two-year, $10 million contract with Miami as a free agent in March of 2024, but Schefter reports that Smith is seeking a re-worked contract after his breakout campaign. He has not appeared at OTAs amid those contract talks. Smith is set to earn $4.6 million for 2025. His preference is to remain with the Dolphins, according to Schefter.
In his three seasons playing in Arthur Smith’s offense, Smith grabbed a total of 126 receptions for 1,469 yards and 14 TDs. For his career, Smith has 307 catches for 3,307 yards and 28 TDs with the Titans, Patriots, Falcons and Dolphins over eight NFL seasons.
