“This Isn’t Hunger Games,” Says Shannon Sharpe as Shedeur Sanders Admits the Vibe in the Browns QB Room is Positive
Shedeur Sanders maintains that the vibes are high in the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room. The former Denver Bronco believes that Joe Flacco is going to be the Browns’ starting quarterback in the near future. The Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel ahead of Sanders, but the former wide receiver insists that Sanders passes the “eye test.” It will take nothing short of a monstrous effort for Sanders to usurp Flacco in the Browns’ quarterback pecking order in the future. However, NFL Hall of Famer, Shannon Sharpe, doesn’t believe that the competition is necessarily a do-or-die moment for them all. He believes that players seldom harbor animosity towards one another.

For better or worse, the result of the Browns’ impending decision will alter the career trajectories of all four quarterbacks. However, NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe doesn’t believe that the competition is necessarily a do-or-die moment for them.
On the most recent episode of the Nightcap podcast, the former Denver Bronco explained that players seldom harbor animosity towards one another while competing for a roster spot. According to Sharpe, the infighting is simply not worth it.
“This isn’t Hunger Games. Sometimes people try to pit you like it’s the Hunger Games. Yes, there’s only going to be one guy that can play at a time, but I’m not trying to sabotage it. Hopefully, [Joe Flacco] can go in there and impart some wisdom… I’m not trying to sabotage anybody so that I can play in front of them.”
Shedeur needs to be managed well by Joe Flacco in Cleveland. While Flacco being listed as the Week 1 starter seems inevitable, Sharpe’s co-host and former Cincinnati Bengal, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, believes that Sanders is “obviously” going to be the quarterback of the future in Cleveland.
Even though the Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel well ahead of Sanders, the former wide receiver insists that Sanders passes the “eye test.”
“We know what the pecking order is going to be… The eye test, it doesn’t lie. And based on the eye test, when you saw those quarterbacks that came in their rookie year, you already knew who’s the best… So, Flacco is going to be the starter. At some point, if Flacco is not playing will, Shedeur Sanders will step in and be the quarterback of the future. It’s just always how it plays out.”
Funnily enough, Sanders seemed to be well aware of Flacco’s status during the midst of his fall in the 2025 NFL Draft. At one point, the 2024 Golden Arm winner was seen talking with his Hall of Fame father, Deion, about the veteran QB.
The head coach of the Buffaloes promptly reminded his son that “Joe Flacco is my age,” jokingly hinting at their being a path to a starting role in Cleveland. Nevertheless, Sanders seeing starting reps in 2025 is far from a guarantee.
He may have managed to impress his coaches early on during the rookie minicamp, potentially separating himself from the likes of Gabriel and Kenny Pickett, but it will take nothing short of a monstrous effort for him to usurp Flacco. Suffice to say, it’s not Sanders’ time quite yet.
Ex-NFL QB Explains Why Jalen Milroe is a Perfect Fit for Steelers
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe would be a perfect fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21 in the 2025 NFL Draft. Over the past two seasons, he threw for 5,678 yards, 39 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. NFL Network lead draft analyst and former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah thinks Milroe has more upside than even Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who’s projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 25th round. The Steelers offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith, loves the run game, loves to design the rungame, Orlovky said. “I think you can, in many ways, build an offense that’s got early-Lamar [Jackson] stuff, where the quarterback run is a big part of it,” he said. The Pittsburgh Steelers are in desperate need of finding a long-term answer at the quarterback position.

The Steelers are in desperate need of finding a long-term answer at the games most important position. Orlovsky thinks Milroe would fill that void.
“As time has gone on, I’m more intrigued with the Steelers and Jalen Milroe. … I don’t think that there’s a team in the NFL that is in a worse situation when it comes to the quarterback position than the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Orlovsky said on ESPN’s Get Up on Monday.
“The reason I say Milroe, a couple things. Number one, the likelihood he’ll be there at 21. Number two, the receivers on the perimeter, both George Pickens and DK Metcalf. Could you imagine a QB with the ability to push the ball down field like Milroe, and then the rare athletic ability that we’re watching. … This young man has rare physical talent.”
Milroe, 22, is an intriguing prospect. Over the past two seasons, he threw for 5,678 yards, 39 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,257 yards and 32 touchdowns. His 4.4 speed is unheard of for a quarterback, too.

“Rare physical talent …maybe the only quarterback who’s faster than Lamar Jackson,” Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said about Milroe.
Several coaches and scouts have said that Milroe is “the greatest runner of the football” they’ve ever evaluated at the QB position, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
“When you get these dynamically-athletic quarterbacks, and you got guys on the outside like DK Metcalf and George Pickens, defenses can’t get overly-complicated on early downs,” Orlovsky said. “Arthur Smith, the Steelers offensive coordinator, loves the run game, loves to design the run game. So I think you can, in many ways, build an offense that’s got early-Lamar [Jackson] stuff, where the quarterback run’s a big part of it.”
NFL Network lead draft analyst and former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah thinks Milroe has more upside than even Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who’s projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

“Talking to teams, though, if you were to use the word the phrase with him that’s used more than any other of all the quarterbacks in this draft, that’s the lottery ticket. If you want to just take a lottery ticket that you could hit huge on if it all works out and all comes together, he’s got the highest upside of anybody in this draft, and that goes all the way up to Cam Ward at No. 1,” Jeremiah said during a conference call previewing the 2025 NFL Draft.
“But he is a long way from getting there. So to me it’s a classic second round pick. You get your first pick in the bag. You feel comfortable about it. It’s a double off the wall. Now you can stop choking up and swing for the fences with Jalen Milroe. That’s how just about everybody universally views him. We’ll see where he ends up going.”
Jeremiah also sees some Lamar Jackson-like traits from Milroe.
“In terms of a comparison, the only thing I can say is as a runner, he’s as impressive as Lamar Jackson was as a runner coming out. Lamar was light years ahead of him in terms of the passing game at that point in time, and Lamar has continued to just improve each and every year in that department as well,” Jeremiah said.

Rodgers has now signed on for one season, and will be the team’s starting quarterback next year, with Mason Rudolph and possibly Howard playing behind him.
There’s no quarterback competition, except maybe for who plays first if something happens to the 10-time Pro Bowler, but Howard says he’s learned a lot from the 20-year veteran signal caller.
“He’s been so awesome to me so far,” Howard said. “Obviously we’ve only gotten to be together for about three days, but I got a really good feeling about him and about this whole QB room. I think we already in this past week meshed really well, hit it off. I think we got a good vibe, good group. Aaron has been so willing to help me. He’s like, ‘Literally, as much or as little as you want me to help you, I’ll be there.’ He’s already given me tips, little things here and there — in the meeting room, on the field, in my drops, different little things.
“Obviously I can’t do the things that he can do mechanically, so I don’t want to replicate that too much because that’s pretty unique. But, for the most part, everything I can learn from that guy is invaluable. So I’m like as much as you want to pour into me.”

When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, he was the only quarterback on the team’s roster.
Now, he’s slated to back up further Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers after Pittsburgh inked the 41-year-old to a one-year, $13.65 million contract in early June to end a months-long free-agency standoff between the two parties.

Howard was named the 2025 CFP National Championship Game Offensive MVP after leading Ohio State to a commanding victory over Notre Dame. The two-time All-Big 10 selection is slated to compete with Mason Rudolph for the Steelers’ backup quarterback gig.
Rodgers sang Howard’s praises quickly after the pair met. “We’ve gotten to talk a little bit. I thought he did really well today. You know, he seems pretty bright, not too big for him, going through the progressions really well,” he said.
“But yeah, I mean, I’m gonna be with him every single day, in every single meeting. Found my seat next to him today in the offensive meeting — whether or not that sticks — right next to Will Howard. So, I’m going to help him out as much as I can.”

“He gets to see how Mason [does it], who has been a journeyman — I mean, you could call him that. He’s been a backup. He’s been a little bit of a starter. Mason’s kind of done a lot of things. Steelers Reportedly Felt Good About ‘Vibe’ of Aaron Rodgers’ Meeting with Arthur Smith
The Pittsburgh Steelers met with J.J. Rodgers last week. The meeting was described as “positive” by Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. It’s unclear if Rodgers will stay with the Steelers or go to another team. The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings are interested in him.
“From Pittsburgh’s viewpoint, I heard they walked away that day feeling really good about the vibe of the meeting, per a league source,” Anderson wrote in part.
Rodgers met with Steelers leadership for six hours last Friday, and the visit was described as positive, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Obviously, it’s a good sign for the Steelers that they felt Rodgers’ talk with the offensive coordinator was a positive one. At this juncture, Rodgers is clearly Pittsburgh’s No. 1 option at quarterback, and it’s hard to see where the team can go if he doesn’t end up landing with the Steelers.
The New York Giants are out after signing Russell Wilson to join Jameis Winston in their quarterback room, and the Minnesota Vikings have all but signaled that they’re going to roll with J.J. McCarthy next year.
The Giants, Vikings and Steelers have been the three top teams connected with Rodgers, so it’s really up to him at this point if he wants to head to Pittsburgh or pursue some other option, perhaps even retirement.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Monday that a decision could potentially be expected within the next few days.
