The Tommy Car Auto Group is giving back with their annual scholarship. Each year, in memory of her father, Tom Cosenzi, who passed away in 2009, the company gifts two students with a $2500 scholarship. Recipients like West Springfield high school graduate Ainsley Kearney who will be attending the University of New England to study medical biology and playing lacrosse. She added that the scholarship money will help with tuition and books, but also allow her to pursue other extracurricular activities, such as study abroad.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – As the school year wraps up, high school seniors are looking ahead, and one local business is looking to help them on their next steps.

The Tommy Car Auto Group is giving back with their annual scholarship.

Two scholarships were given on Monday, honoring two recent graduates’ commitment to academic excellence.

Western Mass News Spoke with Carla Cosenzi, the President of Tommy Car Auto Group. Each year, in memory of her father, Tom Cosenzi, who passed away in 2009, Cosenzi gifts two students from the area with a $2500 scholarship.

“It’s amazing to see, amazing. First of all, I’m so inspired by the number of applications that we get and what this next generation of youth is doing and accomplishing, so I’m always inspired by it.” Said Carla Cosenzi.

She continued to say that her father’s intentions to support the next generation were very important, which is recognized by the recipients themselves who get to carry on his memory. Recipients like West Springfield high school graduate Ainsley Kearney who will be attending the University of New England to study medical biology and playing lacrosse.

“The dedication he had to the community, especially higher education, it’s so incredible to see the lasting impact he’s had, on everybody. Said Kearney. “Unfortunately, PA (physician assistant) school is a bit expensive, so those two years will be a bit rough at first but definitely put towards my education because the goal is to be a sports medicine physician or oncology as well.” She added.

Elena Conklin, graduated from Hopkins Academy and will be attending UMass Amherst to study sports management. “I’m very passionate about outdoor recreation so I hope to use my degree to work in the field of outdoor recreation, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, those type of activities.” She added that the scholarship money will help with tuition and books, but also allow her to pursue other extracurricular activities: “I would love to pursue a study abroad in my college career at some point so that will be super helpful going towards that.”

Both girls carrying on the memory of Tom Cosenzi through their higher education careers.
