House appropriators kicked off a spending bill markup spree Monday, advancing a pair of fiscal 2026 bills with deep cuts to energy and environment programs — and ensuring another clash with the Senate over government funding.

Appropriations subcommittees advanced the Energy-Water bill and the Transportation-Housing and Urban Development bill along party lines.

Subcommittees tasked with funding the Interior Department, EPA, the State Department, NOAA and other agencies with environmental portfolios will work to advance their spending legislation Tuesday.

The House bills unveiled so far align neatly with the Trump administration’s calls for significant spending reductions targeting Democratic priorities. But for the most part, Republican appropriators have rebuffed the steepest of the administration’s requested cuts.
