Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s fiendship: What changed after Justin Baldoni dropped the subpoena
Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are reportedly working to repair their relationship. However, sources say their bond remains strained following recent events. The tension reportedly stems from Lively’s ongoing legal battle with her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. Swift became inadvertently linked to the case, raising complications in her personal relationship with Lively. The Gossip Girl alum filed a complaint in December 2024 against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment, breach of contract, emotional distress and invasion of privacy.
According to a source speaking exclusively to “People”, Swift, 35, and Lively, 37, are currently “on good terms”, but their friendship “is not the same as it was before”. The pair, who once frequently appeared in public together, are said to be spending far less time with each other.
Swift Is Involved In A Legal Battle
The tension reportedly stems from Lively’s ongoing legal battle with her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. Swift became inadvertently linked to the case, raising complications in her personal relationship with Lively.
The Gossip Girl alum filed a complaint in December 2024 against Baldoni, 41, accusing him of sexual harassment, breach of contract, emotional distress and invasion of privacy. In her claims, Lively alleged a campaign to discredit her professionally, as detailed in a “New York Times” investigation titled: “We Can Bury Alone: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine”.
Baldoni has denied the allegations and responded with a $400 million countersuit for defamation and extorsion, naming Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their PR team. In the countersuit, Baldoni claimed that Swift was present at a meeting at Lively’s New York City penthouse to discuss script revisions for the film. According to Baldoni, Lively attempted to use her close ties to Swift and Reynolds to influence him, calling them her “dragons” and referring to them as “titans” in storytelling.
The actor also referenced Swift in a text to Lively, saying her script changes were appreciated and adding: “I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor”, suggesting Swift’s involvement in the creative process.
Attempting To Fix Up The Relationship
Despite the legal entanglement, Swift and Lively reportedly reconnected in April 2025 after a period of distance. However, rebuilding trust will take time.”Taylor is working to trust Blake again”, the source added, “but it is going to take some time”.
The joint trial between Lively and Baldoni, set to address both lawsuits, is currently scheduled for March 2026.
