Luis Diaz continues to be the subject of transfer interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The Colombian has two years left on his current contract, but after deciding he doesn’t earn enough at the club, he has seemingly decided to seek a new adventure in the hopes of securing a higher financial package elsewhere.

Bayern Munich have pushed the hardest to sign Luis Diaz so far, as two bids hve been rejected for the Colombian, with a third bid set to arrive soon according to Fabrizio Romano.

Whilst the Bavarians have expressed a stronger interest thus far, as they look to replace Leroy Sane who has departed for Galatasary, Barcelona remain in the conversation.

Barcelona are aware that they cannot pay as much for Luis Diaz, or offer as high a salary, but the La Liga side remain a favoured destination for most professional football players.

Mundo Deportivo have reported the maximum transfer fee that Barcelona can offer Liverpool for Luis Diaz.

“FC Barcelona is clear that it is not going to commit crazy things for Luis Diaz, which translated into numbers, means that it does not plan to go beyond 60 million, something that it has planned since the beginning of the market.”

So, Bayern Munich’s last bid was 67million euros, which could suggest they are ahead in the race to sign Luis Diaz as that was not enough to convince Liverpool to sell their player.

If Barcelona cannot spend above 60million euros on Luis Diaz, they face an uphill battle to secure his services.

The situation to let Luis Diaz go remains complicated at Liverpool due to several factors.

Liverpool have been linked to the likes of Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, Alexander Isak of Newcastle and Rodryo Goes of Real Madrid but no deal has been agreed so far.

Any finalisation of these deals could open the exit door for Luis Diaz, but until that happens, it is likely the Colombian will stay put.

Barcelona’s priority remains to strengthen the left-wing position, but it remains to be seen whether they will change their stance on Luis Diaz if they can see their target slipping away to Bayern Munich.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), FC Barcelona has a limit of €60 million that it would spend on Liverpool FC attacker Luis Diaz.

That should leave Bayern Munich in pole position to win the race for Diaz:

Barcelona have set €60m as a limit of what they’re willing to pay for Luis Díaz, and will not be involved in a bidding war with Bayern. Hansi Flick and Deco want the Colombian, who is their top target, but the signing is very complicated. If Bayern keep increasing the bidding, then there’s nothing Barça can do as they have no intention of doing anything crazy.

At this point, Bayern Munich could be in a spot where it is bidding against itself…which presents an interesting conundrum. Liverpool reportedly wants €80 million and Bayern Munich’s last bid was €67.5 million.

FC Barcelona have made it clear that Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is their top target to strengthen the left wing.

The Colombian international is sporting director Deco’s preferred choice and also fits the plans of manager Hansi Flick.

The 28-year-old speedster, for his part, has shown a clear willingness to join Barcelona. However, various complications are making the deal increasingly difficult.

Liverpool have shown resistance to selling him, while Barcelona are also facing major competition from Bayern Munich, who are pushing hard for the Colombian international.

All of this, coupled with Barça’s ongoing struggle to operate under La Liga’s 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule, has complicated matters.

Barcelona will not overspend

Given this situation, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona do not intend to go beyond the €60 million mark for Luis Diaz. This figure has been the internal limit since the start of the transfer window.

The La Liga champions understand that Diaz is eager to leave Liverpool, and would be open to joining them this summer, although Bayern have also emerged as a potential destination.

Earlier in the summer, Diaz’s camp believed that a move for €60 million could be forced through with pressure. However, the situation has changed at Liverpool, following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, with the club now having second thoughts about a sale.

However, the Reds are still in the market for forwards, and new additions could mean an exit for Diaz.

Reports earlier this week indicated Bayern Munich had already offered €67.5 million for the Colombian, which Liverpool rejected. So, it begs the question as to why Barcelona are continuing in their pursuit despite having set a lower spending limit of €60 million.

After all, Liverpool have no incentive to sell at a discount, especially now that they are without Jota and are looking to offload Darwin Nunez, who is not in their long-term plans.

Despite that, Barcelona remain attentive to potential moves from Diaz to force an exit and are watching Liverpool’s stance closely.

However, the club’s internal assessments suggest the deal will be extremely difficult under current budget constraints.

It is no secret that Barcelona were seriously interested in signing Liverpool star Luis Diaz this summer.

The Colombian winger, highly valued by Deco and the sporting department, was one of the club’s top transfer targets.

However, as reported by SPORT, Barcelona made it clear from the beginning that they would not pay more than €70 million for him, including the variables. That was their limit. No more, no less.

Even though Barça eventually shifted focus to Marcus Rashford, their admiration for Diaz never disappeared.

The club had always kept him high on their wish list, but with Barcelona facing financial fair play restrictions and Liverpool’s high demands, the deal became impossible early on.

Bayern’s move played a big role

Barcelona had a specific plan in mind. Their idea was to let Bayern Munich engage Liverpool first and wear them down in negotiations.

Then, once Barça were officially back under La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule in August, they would try to swoop in and make their move.

However, Bayern’s approach came sooner than expected. The German giants offered €67.5 million for Diaz, but Liverpool rejected it outright.

Reports suggest Bayern are now preparing to raise their offer. Meanwhile, Barcelona decided to act quickly and consider jumping into the race earlier than planned, but only under strict conditions.

Barça made it clear to both Liverpool and Diaz’s camp that their maximum offer would be €70 million, only if all the variables and bonuses were included. Their wage proposal matched Bayern’s, but they refused to go beyond that number.

Liverpool not ready to part ways

Liverpool, keen to drive up the bidding, leaked to the media that they would only consider selling Diaz for €82 million.

At that point, Barcelona stepped away, as Deco had no interest in another exhausting negotiation for a player they couldn’t afford.

Barcelona’s message was clear that if Diaz truly wanted to join the club, he needed to push for the move himself. Since that did not happen, Barça have now fully backed away from the deal.

The Catalan outfit will instead sign Marcus Rashford after reaching a “verbal agreement in principle” with the player and Manchester United.

That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports that the details of a loan deal with an option to buy were “being finalised” on Saturday.

Once that happens, United will grant Rashford permission to fly to Spain to complete the deal. Barça are “planning” to have his medical in the next few days.

Barcelona had originally targeted a move Athletic Club de Bilbao winger Nico Williams to improve their depth on the left flank. But the Euro 2024 winner signed an eight-year contract extension this summer, ruling out any possibility of a deal.

They then moved on to Luis Diaz, but were told by Liverpool that the Colombia international is not for sale when they made their initial approach.

Romano claims that Barcelona saw any potential deal for Diaz as “too expensive”, with the Reds reportedly valuing the 28-year-old at upwards of £86.8m (€100m). The 2024/25 La Liga winners would also be unable to register him in their squad as things currently stand.

Bayern Munich are still in for Diaz, who has reportedly told Liverpool that he wishes to join the Bundesliga champions. The Bavarian outfit have already seen an offer of £58.4m (€67.5m) rejected, although they are confident they can get a deal done for £69.2m (€80m).
