This should be a busy week for travel.

AAA expects over 72 million Americans traveling at least 50 miles for their Fourth of July activities this year — and, yes, that would be a record mark for the holiday with travel set to be up around 1.7 million people from last year. Statewide, AAA Kansas Public and Government Affairs Manager Shawn Steward says travel will be up 2 percent overall with almost 700,000 people traveling.

While the travel forecast indicates more traffic, the weather forecast also calls for seasonal heat and humidity. {With that in mind, Steward encourages drivers to get their vehicles ready before they hit the road.}

Air traffic for Kansans will actually be slightly lower than last year, down 0.6 percent, although there will be a slight increase in that category nationally. Also, the national number of people traveling by bus, cruise, train or other means of transportation will be up over 7 percent.
