Your Eyeglasses Don’t Have to Be Boring—These Are the Hottest Specs for 2025
Do some research. If you can, try to go somewhere in person and try them on. Warby Parker has a great try-on program, but plenty of malls and department stores carry huge selections of frames you can test. Go in, take selfies, think about it, and you can always place the order when you’ve come to a researched conclusion. There was plenty of eyewear worth digging into. One of my favorites is frameless glasses. There is, of course, also the bayonetta glasses and all the different variations.
Some people think about glasses very pragmatically, but here’s how I think about it. If you’re wearing them even one day a week, they’re a steady part of your look, probably more so than any of your clothes. So in my view, it’s always worth looking into glasses trends because your specs are worth a little more thought than a rushed decision at your optometrists office or a haphazard Internet purchase.
Do some research. Especially for something like this, trends aren’t everything, but they might help you pick something that will go with the rest of your wardrobe and vibe if you’re feeling lost. It’s not always possible, but if you can, try to go somewhere in person and try them on. That being said, there are a few trends worth discussing. Here’s the thing, runways are not the end-all, be-all for trend forecasting. In fact, runways are more like art shows than trend shows, and there’s plenty of inspo in movies, art, and music too. But there was plenty of eyewear worth digging into. One of my favorites is frameless glasses. One of my fashion faves, Recho Omondi of The Cutting Room Floor podcast and other fashion projects, has been blogging her quest to find a pair of glasses, and the frameless glasses she landed on from Gentle Monster totally beguiled me. That, plus some version of exposed frames were on multiple runways in strange fashions. There is, of course, also the bayonetta glasses and all the different variations, which totally reigned supreme the last two years and are going strong.
In addition, there were quite a few John Lennon-esque circular glasses that feel very retro (what doesn’t these days though?)
Jackie O Shades and Matrix Lenses: The Only Sunglasses That Matter in 2025 Look Like This
The biggest sunglasses trends of 2025 are set to define cool shades until at least 2026. There are the retro frames inspired by Jackie O’s style in the 1960s, and the sleek Matrix-esque styles that Khaite is co-signing. After seasons of acetate styles dominating, wire frames are taking the lead with their sleeker and more luxe feel. The one accessory that links all the best celebrity outfits recently? A pair of metal wire-frame sunglasses like the Gucci style Daisy Edgar-Jones has been wearing all over NYC recently, or the Celine Triomphe frames favored by Suki Waterhouse.. Discover the key sunglasses trends below and find your next go-to pair in the shopping picks we’ve curated for each.
According to the spring/summer 2025 runways, recent celebrity street style, and what insiders are posting to our feeds, we’ve identified five major trends to know. There are the retro frames inspired by Jackie O’s style in the 1960s that will speak to the elegant dressers among us, then there are the sleek Matrix-esque styles that Khaite is co-signing, and the metal wire-rim glasses that celebs like Suki Waterhouse and Daisy Edgar-Jones are ensuring are the new default style. In other words, there’s a style for everyone’s taste. Discover the key sunglasses trends below and find your next go-to pair in the shopping picks we’ve curated for each.
Like so many of the biggest trends of 2025, sunglasses are taking inspiration from the 1960s. The decade’s sophisticated polish is seeping into our eyewear collections via rounded and oversized frames that recall the signature style worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the era, like Phoebe Philo’s translucent take and Ray-Ban’s modernized reinterpretation of the former First Lady’s look.

Although The Matrix premiered in 1999, its influence on eyewear has barely faltered in the 26 years since. Featuring sleek all-black silhouettes with wire rims and minimal hardware, this wave of sunglasses is the modern-day interpretation of the film’s iconic pair. Khaite and Oliver Peoples have teamed up on a cool cat-eye pair, and Vehla’s oval Cleo style is also going viral.
If the 1960s are defining some of the coolest sunglass styles right now, then so are the 1970s. With the help of Loewe, Bottega Veneta, and Tom Ford, curved aviator styles reminiscent of the decade are the only statement shades that matter.
Just when I thought I’d seen the last of the wraparound sunglasses that defined so much of the Y2K redux, the Tory Burch spring/summer 2025 runway goes and puts the sporty styles back on the map. The collection featured a range of shield shades in colors like turquoise and bright yellow that gave a funky update to the tailored suits and car coats they were styled with. Elsewhere in the zeitgeist is Charli XCX, a superfan of the speed silhouette alongside supermodels Vittoria Ceretti and Elsa Hosk, proving that the sunglass trend is far from over.
Celebrity Couples With Surprisingly Big Age Differences
Katharine McPhee and David Foster tied the knot in July 2019. The Broadway star has poked fun at their age gap. She has also opened up about her struggles with their generational gap. The couple have been dating for two years.
Take Katharine McPhee and David Foster for example. Us Weekly confirmed in July 2018 that Foster proposed toMcPhee, who is 34 years his junior, after two years of dating. One year later, they tied the knot in July 2019.
Over the course of their relationship, McPhee hasn’t been afraid to poke fun at their obvious age gap.
“I’ll be the hottest step-grandma,” she tweeted in September 2018 in reference to Foster’s many grandchildren.
However, the Broadway star has also opened up about her struggles with their generational gap.
“I was very concerned with what people would think,” the American Idol alum said during a March 2021 episode of “Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast.” She added: “I’m not trying to skirt around the obvious. We have a huge age difference.”

Met Gala 2025 updates: all the stars and red carpet looks from fashion’s biggest night – as it happened
The Met Gala takes place on the first Monday in May as the opening of New York’s Costume Institute exhibition. The theme is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ which will look back at 300 years of Black fashion alongside the history of Black dandyism. The event itself has huge cultural and celebrity cachet, helped no end by Anna Wintour and her assembled co-hosts: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, ASAP Rocky and Pharrell Williams. An individual ticket is $75,000, or over £55,ooo, while a table of ten goes for more than a quarter of a million pounds. Proceeds then go to the Costume Institute, which is dependent on the gala for its main operating costs. There is a party with dinner and music, more on what that involves later.
Hello! Ellie and Morwenna from the Guardian’s fashion desk here in London. We’ll be watching the Met Gala – fashion’s Oscars/Baftas/Olympics – so you don’t have to, guiding you through the probable hits and possible misses from a starry guest list which includes Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and multiple Jenner/Kardashians.
To recap on what you’re watching: as ever, the Met Gala takes place on the first Monday in May as the opening of New York’s Costume Institute exhibition. There is always a theme, and usually some sort of accompanying text, and this year’s it’s called “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which will look back at 300 years of Black fashion alongside the history of Black dandyism.
To get you up to speed, do have a read of this brilliant piece by the Guardian’s Sasha Mistlin from earlier this week. Last month, Sasha interviewed Monica L. Miller, whose 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, interrogates of the strategic use of fashion by Black men throughout history, which is the inspiration behind both the exhibition and gala.
The theme is notable for various reasons, not least because it’s the Met’s first ever fashion exhibition devoted entirely to designers of colour so is being viewed by some as a wider effort to incorporate more diversity into the collection. It’s timely too. Previous galas have been criticised for being tone-deaf, little more than peacocking, and a parade of privilege and elitism.
In her preview piece for the Saturday paper, Jess Cartner-Morley describes this year’s theme as an “intellectually minded celebration of diversity [which] lands at a moment when the Trump administration is pushing back robustly against both diversity and intellectualism”.
However you view it, the event itself has huge cultural and celebrity cachet, helped no end by Anna Wintour and her assembled co-hosts: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, ASAP Rocky and Pharrell Williams with LeBron James as the honorary chair.
This is handy given the main thrust of the gala is making money. A choice guest list of designers, celebrities and other notables will have bought tickets or a table at great cost. An individual ticket is $75,000, or over £55,ooo, while a table of ten goes for more than a quarter of a million pounds. Donations also roll in from donors. Proceeds then go to the Costume Institute, which is dependent on the gala for its main operating costs, though it’s worth mention that the gala itself costs a lot of put on too … The gala’s arrival is fleeting: stars arrive, walk up the stairs, and disappear inside. There is a party with dinner and music, more on what that involves later. And there is almost always Rihanna.
Fashion-wise, what does that mean? We can probably expect some radical tailoring, a little menswear-as-womenswear, flamboyant spins on the modern dandy and a diverse raft of designers. But what we want to see is a celebration of fashion at its most multicultural, expressive and absurd. Fashion as high art.
We all know that the red carpet is now an economy unto itself, a strangely cultivated branding exercise for celebrities and marketing tool by the fashion industry built on an illusion that the gowns and dandy suits are an expression of a celebrity’s personal style when in fact, they’ve been picked by a stylist. But that doesn’t stop it being wonderful to watch.
