The Detroit Tigers’ weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays has not gone as hoped with Detroit dropping the first two games of the series at Steinbrenner Field.

Detroit lost 8-3 to the Rays on Saturday as outfielder Riley Greene contributed a walk over the course of three at-bats.

The day became an opportunity for the Tigers’ PR account to announce the latest Greene news as the Tigers star recently entered rarified territory alongside two of the greatest hitters in recent baseball history.

“Riley Greene’s 59 RBI are among the most by a Tiger through June 20 since Miguel Cabrera had 71 RBI in 2013,” the Tigers PR account wrote.

“Greene has 17 HR, 59 RBI and 35 XBH, joining Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh as the only AL players to reach those totals so far this year”

The Tigers have hit an impasse after the strongest start to the season of any MLB team, having lost the first two games to the Rays one series removed from dropping two of three games to the Cincinnati Reds.

Detroit got six hits on Tuesday during a game that saw reliever Gipson Sawyer-Long give up four earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched.

The Tigers have one more chance to salvage a game against the Rays at 12:10 p.m. ET.

Greene’s play in the field and at the plate loom large with the Tigers hoping to finish off one of the greatest first halves of a season in franchise history.
