Tommy Lai
CEO, GHM
Tommy Lai makes the list thanks to his small but mighty development portfolio in Saudi Arabia. GHM’s hotels are currently located in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The Middle East is an upcoming area of growth. Lai is in charge of one of the
world’s most exclusive hotel brands: The Chedi. With 10 hotels opened since 1992, Saudi Arabia alone will add three properties in AlUla, in NEOM and in Diriyah Gate. Two of them will be in the Kingdom’s most important historical sites, and another in one of its postcard destinations for the future. The Chedi Hegra will have just 35 rooms; it will link to other structures nearby including a disused railway station and the Hegra Fort, among other buildings. Meanwhile, the Chedi Trojena will be located atop the Gulf snow retreat, a focal point of the giga-project’s Slope Residences. The Chedi Wadi Safar will be located near one of the most culturally-signifi cant areas of Diriyah. Lai was also involved in the creation of Boutique Group in an advisory capacity – testament to Saudi Arabia’s confi dent in Lai’s understanding of the market.
