The Town of Cedarburg is fundraising to add improvements to the Korb Sports Complex.

Since it opened in 2020, the 33-acre complex at 8555 State Highway 60 has been home to Cedarburg Little League and other popular recreation programs in the area, according to the town’s new webpage for the fundraising campaign.

That first phase of work to build the complex cost roughly $2.1 million.

But even after a new multi-use sports complex and indoor recreation facility operated by Mequon-based Athlete Performance opened next to the Korb site in December 2024, the town expects the area to draw more users, Town Administrator Eric Ryer said in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Since they opened, the complexes have seen a growing user base, which led the village to look at fundraising for improvements, he said.

The town has over 1,000 children in recreation programming annually that use the complex. Additionally, the members of the community and other local youth organizations regularly rent use of the site, including the Cedarburg Mercs, Bigler Sports, Jr. Chinooks, Velocity Softball, Washington County Homeschool Association, Athlete Performance, I AM Volleyball Club, and more.

As a result, the town hopes to raise community funds for several key projects totaling around $1.3 million, including:

Bathroom and Concession Building with Pavilion – $875,000

Paving of North & South Parking Lots – $273,000

Paving of South Road – $52,500

New Pavilion with Concrete Floor – $100,000

Electrical Upgrades for Little League Fields & Pitching Machines – $15,000

Turf for Hitting Tunnels – $10,000

These projects would provide better access to the complex while decreasing maintenance of the parking areas; permanent ADA compliant restroom facilities; shade for participants and spectators; concessions facilities; and a rentable open-air space with access to a kitchen to host seasonal birthday parties or other gatherings and flexibility for youth programming, according to the town’s website.

“These are improvements we hadn’t really necessarily envisioned at the beginning. Over the last five years, people had come to staff, saying, ‘It would be nice if you guys did X, Y and Z,'” Ryer said.

Ideally, the town hopes to raise the funds for the improvements by the end of 2026 with groundbreaking starting by the end of 2027, Ryer said, though the timeline hinges on the success of fundraising. Realistically, the town will seek bids to complete the work at the direction of the Town Board as funds are raised.

The campaign was launched on June 3, according to a news release posted to the town’s website that day.

Planning for the complex began in 2017, according to the town’s website. For the initial phase that opened in 2020, the town committed around $1.6 million and obtained donations from members of the greater Cedarburg area to fund the balance of the $2.1 million cost.

For the latest fundraising effort, smaller donations are accepted via the donation link on the campaign website. Those interested in larger donations should reach out to Parks and Recreation Director Paul Jungbauer at pjungbauer@townofcedarburgwi.gov.
