US President Donald Trump is ‘frustrated’ with progress of trade deal talks with India. The American president announced 25% tariffs on India effective August 1 after the two countries failed to strike an interim trade deal. Trump also announced an ‘additional penalty’ on India for its oil and arms purchases from Russia. India has made it clear that it will not compromise on national interest to seal a trade deal with America. US officials are expected to visit India in late August for the sixth round of negotiations. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has said that it is currently analysing the potential effects of US tariffs.

Trump also announced an ‘additional penalty’ on India for its oil and arms purchases from Russia.
“Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country. Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE — ALL THINGS NOT GOOD! INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!,” Trump announced on Truth Social.
